Journal Shadow Wrought's Journal: Constrained Writing Exercise: Adding some GRUEsomeness 4

Before we get down to business you should all know that GeckoFood flat out Rocks!, and that he was a huge contributor to this exercise. The last time we did this I used a word generator which had a dictionary of only 100 words. D'oh! So in the course of the comments, Mr. GeckoFood offered to make one! And he did and I love it, so I'm using it for today's exercise.

One thing about the generator is that it has two dictionaries from which it pulls. The unabridged has over a quarter million words in it, the "12-Dicts 2 of 12" has another huge chunk. The difference is that while the latter typically picks everyday words, the former will come up with random words that you have likely never heard of (at least I've never heard of cresylite, onychoptosis, gymnurinae, or lienteria before;-). So this time I opted to use only the "12-Dicts 2 of 12" word set. As an option, for those of you who like a challenge, I've also included three words from the unabridged funkiness, though by no means feel like it is a necessary part of the exercise- 'cause I probably won't;-)

So, on to the exercise! Once again all ten words will need to be used. The goal is to use them as seamlessly as possible, so don't worry about the order in which they're giving. You also don't need to worry about length. Make it as long as it needs to be and as short as it wants to be. The main constraint this time around is narration. What you write will need to be in that wholly neglected second person point of view. Used mainly in Choose Your Own Adventure books and Interactive Fiction, this is the style in which you're telling the reader what they are, or were, doing. For example, the wikipedia example sentence reads, "After turning off the alarm clock, you get out of your bed and head off to the bathroom to brush your teeth." A more famous example, at least to this crowd, would be, "It is dark. You're likely to be eaten by a Grue."

So there you have your only two constraints- use the words and write it in second person;-) I will be posting my attempt Friday morning, and I would encourage you to post your completed works in your Journal then as well. That way you have an easily accessed record of what you wrote and it's easier for your Friends & Fans (though hopefully not your evil, twisted Foes & Freaks) to comment upon it.

So, without further ado, I give you the required words:

  • intentness
  • hideaways
  • botanic
  • beanbags
  • brewery
  • rustling
  • agenda
  • snarls
  • doleful
  • bursars

And the bonus WTF words:

  • monoxylous
  • circinately
  • cholesteremia

Good luck, and remember our two main goals; keep the writing off the rust, er, the rust off the writing, and have fun!
