Journal Saige's Journal: Something Not To Do When Sick 3
Just some advice to everyone.
If you are not feeling well, whether a fever, nausea, or just a bad head cold, and someone calls to you schedule a phone interview, make sure they know you're not feeling well and put schedule it for some time in the future when you're likely to be feeling well. Even if it will be more inconvienent for you. Do not, under any circumstances, offer to do the phone interview right then.
Do not underestimate the effect that being sick will have on your mind. Because if you do the interview right then, you will likely make a real idiot of yourself. Then you will have just blown one more opportunity in your job search, as evidenced when you are told that "HR will be keeping in contact with you," which is polite-speak for "that was a waste of my time."
Now pardon me while I go beat my head against my desk a few more times to see if I can knock some sense into my mush-filled skull.
Edit: But the one advantage to doing this is if you interview badly, you can then call the person up later, apologize for not coming across well, and state that being sick affected you more than you expected. And quite possibly, the person might understand how being sick could affect you, and be interested in talking to you a bit more when you're well.

I was hoping to be in Seattle by the holidays, but that's starting to look less and less likely.

Now, now, I'm sure that's not going to help you recover any more quickly. The doctors recommend plenty of fluid and rest, and definately, positively no self-punishment.
