You are aware of the fact that you can switch to another (=longer) skill whenever you want without losing any skill points of the current skill?

It's common practice to change to a longer skill right before going offline. If you log in again, switch back to the shorter skill you were training before.

Yeah, I've seen the interviews with Joss where he explains that he wanted to break free from the classic mold of "heroes don't die randomly", but that's just stupid. The reason heroes don't die at random like that is because being nigh-unkillable is part of the basic definition of a fictional hero.

While I agree to a certain extend, one of the best (mini) TV series I know, Cracker takes a lot of its excitement out of the fact that no one but Fitz is "safe". The deaths of other main characters contribute greatly to the overall story arc and really makes it outstanding.

School Massacre planned and posted on YouTube->

Submitted by Anonymous Coward
An anonymous reader writes "A Finnish upper secondary school student posted his plans for executing a massacre in Jokela today in advance on the Internet, including a video on YouTube (the video is now removed, however). According to the Finnish news paper Helsingin Sanomat (in Finnish), he posted a 21-file package on the Internet including a manifest stating (freely translated) "I cannot say I am part of the same race as this lousy, arrogant and selfish human race. No! I have developed a step ahead." The newspaper also reports the shooting was inspired by the shootings in Columbine. The number of victims is not yet clear, but according to rumours one has died."

FBI data-mines grocery stores. Did Visa/MC help?->

Submitted by Anonymous Coward
An anonymous reader writes "Recent media reports indicate that in 2005-06, the FBI went trawling through grocery store records in order to track down Iranian terror cells. They hoped to be able to locate Iranians through the purchase of specific food items. The problem with this, of course, is that most Iranians buy their middle eastern food at small ethnic markets, and not the big supermarket chains — for the simple reason that muslims are required to eat halal meat, which is not sold in most places. The majority of mom and pop ethnic markets do not have the detailed computer purchase histories that Safeway or Whole Foods have. Thus, what is more likely is that the FBI simply put together a list of everyone who had purchased anything at a middle eastern food market. As this "CNET article discusses, all signs point to the credit card companies (Visa, Mastercard, Amex) providing this data, and not the individual stores. This could be the tip of a (potentially illegal) data-mining iceberg. http://www.cnet.com/8301-13739_1-9812473-46.html"

School shooting at .fi after YouTube videos

Submitted by
An anonymous reader writes "Today a school shooting took place in Finnish school of Jokela, Tuusula. My big condolences to all families and friends of its victims. :(

A student with obvious mental problems took lives of seven people (status at 15:51 +2UTC, one critical with head wound in hospital) with .22 caliber pistol. His is now in police custody. According to his now closed youtube account his previous account got removed: YouTube suspended my previous account but I am back now :) My new account name is German and means "Stormspirit" in English. — reasons that it was full of similar videos showing that he is planning this massacre. People at Youtube and its users surely think that they should have done more than close his account. The question is, how many others are out there, and will we learn something about this? How this will change our access to online services like youtube and goverment reactions to such cases in the future? Finnish PM Matti Vanhanen already stated that it's extremely difficult to prepare to such incidents but I don't fully agree with him as there were clear evident in youtube days before and lot of people saw it.

A really sad story indeed. :("

Is a Domain Name an Automatic Trademark? 2

Submitted by
TheWorkingStiff
TheWorkingStiff writes "I registered a descriptive domain name like "thesimpledog.com" and started a blog on it. About a month later I get a threatening letter from a link farmer who owns "simpledog.com" The owner of simpledog.com is claiming that he owns the trademark to the words simpledog even though he has no real business or rights by that name other than a static page with some text and Adsense slapped on it. There is no product, service or brand whatsoever

Does simply registering a two or three word domain give you instant trademark rights to those words even though you've never done anything with them? Should I give up my domain to a link farmer who is trying to bully me, or does he have a valid right to any phrase he registers that isn't already trademarked?"

I do! I do! I do believe in ghosts!->

Chemisor writes "According to the latest survey by AP, 34% of the US population believes in ghosts. Among other interesting results are 19% who believe in spells and witchcraft, 48% who believe in ESP, and 5% (including at least one computer programmer!) who have seen a monster in their closet. Something tells me that the decline in the US science education levels has a ways to go yet..."

Your browser is vulnerable to DNS Rebinding 1

Submitted by
Firefox
Firefox writes "DNS rebinding was discovered in 1996 and affected the Java Virtual Machine. Recently a group of researchers at Stanford found out that this vulnerability is still present in browsers and that the common solution, known as DNS pinning, is not effective anymore. Securityfocus tracked down one of the authors of the study, Adam Barth, to learn about the impact of the problem, which workarounds can be deployed right now, and how to protect browsers from DNS rebinding attacks in the long run. You can use the online test to check your software..."

Booze is the answer. I don't remember the question.
