Journal Interrobang's Journal: My Protracted Absence 12

I imagine that some of you are wondering why I haven't been around for a while. Well, the short answer is, for ages I was too busy at work to even dare to try and post anything, and right now, it's because I'm too busy trying to find another job.

Unfortunately, I got laid off on 12 October, actually a month ago tomorrow -- wow, it doesn't seem that long. Then, less than a week later, the Fiance Figure came to visit for about 2 weeks, so it's been hectic to say the least. Today, I had the first job interview (a cold call to me) I've had so far, and it was a total waste of time -- semi-scam operation recruiting for semi-sales. (Aside: I don't know why so many HR people see writing and research skills etc. and automatically assume that someone who can communicate well on paper and verbally occasionally would be happy pitching a spiel yea many times a day yea many days a week like some kind of performing automaton. If someone can figure this out, let me know.)

In any case, I intend to post on the Job Center (ergh, American spellings) as soon as I can, if it's still going, but meantime, anyone know anyone hiring tech writers/editors/marketroids/back office folks in either the Toronto/London/K-W area or NYC-ish?

Take care, and I've got another poem for you soon.

  • Where did you work?
And can I see your pic? :P
    • I used to work at a small company called The EHS Corporation, subcontractor to General Electric (aka the Really Really Big Corporation). I don't have a pic of mine in the photo contest, but you can check my pic here [avernus.com]. I'm the female half of the duo (duh!).

      How are things?

Interesting trivia: My friend Joshua of the Silent G is busy starting an SCA group in Israel, and we all want to go to the first event. Like that'll happen!! Sigh...

Whoa! 80% hot. Lose the guy and you might make 90%. ;-)

Welcome back, and good luck with the job search.

One might argue that all of Germany is creatively anachronistic. ;-)

        • 80% hot, huh, and minus The F, 90%?! That's the best rating I ever got. Jeez...what kind of pervert are you?! ;)

Thanks for the best wishes with the job search. So far it's not going all that well. However, tomorrow I'm going to e-mail a couple of local-ish newspapers and ask if they need copy editors, plus I'll probably apply to whatever's out there. Copy editing has its down sides -- one of which is weird hours, but did I mention I'm a nocturnal insomniac?; and the other is a breakneck pace, but did

I have a weakness for women in medieval garb. ;-)

I sort of wander around the Renaissance Festival in Minnesota drooling a lot. *g*

      • Female half? Is that the person on the left or the right?

Sorry, that was just ASKING for it! ;-)

      • You look lovely, and I liked freckled girls very much. Probably you're close to redhead too, right? I can't understand why you always hint you look so bad.. :) Why's that costume? Is that a Purim party?

Things are scary here. It's hard to deal with the study subjects here.. but I'll try studying today. May god help me if I fail.........

What's SCA? And ask him to send you all the tickets to Israel.
  • Good luck with the job search.
  • and remember that if things get tight, there is always legal assitant work.

Given you affection for the 40 hour work week and the general suckiness of the job (its hit and miss, but mostly miss) combined with your lack of desire to become a lawyer, I assume its something you wouldn't want to do. But you can make some cash. My friend Alex did it for a year+ and no one ever saw him, but he made madd bank. Then he took a year off and went to Spain. My wife was a legal assitant in the Investment Management p

In my experience, people trying to fill such a job often use a carpet-bombing approach to hiring. This would mean that it's not that something about you that suggests to them that yo

  • Sorry to hear about the job. Good luck finding another one. Would you like to do copywriting? There are a lot of websites that definitely need help in that area. You could email them with a proposal. Seems like something you could do on your spare time and maybe earn a quick buck. Don't know about resources for finding that kind of job, though.

    Good luck!
  • I hope that the job search will be fruitful, and in a timely fashion.

You already are listed on the JobCentre :-) board; I will make the minor changes that are required fairly soon. I have some jobs to add (unfortunately, not tech writers), so it will likely be soon. Let me know if you would like any more specific changes to your entry.
