Journal GMontag's Journal: Awsome Troll! This One Needs an Award! 7

Anonymous Canard seems to be one of those hippie, tree-hugger trolls. Says he drives a Natural Gas powered Crown Vic. I would expect someone driving a NG powered car to know where the stuff came from but, as usual, my expectations were too high. Apparently it is like expecting electric car drivers to know where electricity comes from.

I responded to his claim of naural gas being renewable with this:

Oil is just as "renewable" as natural gas. They both come from the same hole in the ground.

The natural gas advantage is in not having to refine it. The downside is not having as many products that can be made from it. If you make anythiing (besides a gooey mess) from oil you are going to end up with some gasoline or just vent it off as waste.

He responded with a most excellent troll. Enjoy!

...I took care of it. And here I was wondering how to burn my last 4 mod points, since I won't be around much the next couple days.
  • I'm actually jealous...
  • I think he is right.
    • I saw that you think he is right in your Mod X^n post anouncement.

Sorry, I do not agree that methane == Natural Gas, and neither does NaturalGas.org, even thout one of your statements in your post seems to ignore this. I do not agree that stripping an atom from a molicule == "scrubbing", silly me I thought "scrubbing" was akin to filtration.

Good for you, you had mod points and used them according to your like.
      • First since I am not a chemist (I didn't even pay attention in HS Chemistry - shame on me) I'll agree that scrubbing is akin to filtration.

The point I am really curious about is the Natural Gas (is, is not) renewable argument. You point out, as well as NG.org that NG (which is primarily methane) comes from the same hole in the ground as oil. However on the same site, in The Formation of Natural Gas section on the Background page, it is stated that methane is also harvested from land fills (as a source of N
