Journal GMontag's Journal: Slow going on the job hunt. 7
Here at the office in Arlington, VA, my job duties have dwindled to job hunting. Got an update to previous info that I have until 6 March 2007 to find a new position or a new company. So, I spend the day combing over Monster for things I have not yet applied for, or going through the hoops at other contracter firms recruiting sites, like KBR, replicating what Monster already has on me.
I think I submitted 37 applications to KBR, with only one in the USA and I think it is right down the street from my condo.
A coworker has contacts at Booz-Allen-Hamilton and sent a resume and list of jobs to him, but have not heard back yet.
One happy hour contact liked my resume and she is checking around, so that was cool.
Otherwise, it is famine or feast. I get a flood of spam, called for jobs that I don't really think I am qualified for, or nothing. Which I remember from a couple of years ago and then the right call came in and I went to a new job.
Back to the job boards.
Back from the job boards and lunch. Adding a bit.
Seems tha KBR must have had the recruiter's version of the Craigslist dating ad experience. You post that you smoke and you get every chick in the world who hates smoking. Every time you repost you mention it more.
Some of their ammo handler jobs began with: "HANDLES AMMUNITION"
The list of questions, last step before submission, looked like the FAQ from remedial breathing class:
The Middle East has harsh weather, in the summer it can get over 150 degrees. Is that acceptable?
Most locations are very dusty. You will get dust on your clothes and in your eyes. Is that acceptable?
All sorts of really basic stuff, like they were getting applicants who expected five-star accomodations. Really odd.
