Journal GMontag's Journal: On the job hunt again 2
So, last week my management informed me that the follow-on work they had in mind for me is now uncertain and I might be getting my two-week notice from them this week.
I should have been more active on my job hunt after I left my last long-term project in January, but I let a short-term project get in the way and I began the rush job this weekend.
The first two applications through Monster contacted me back right away, one by phone on Monday morning. I need to brush up on my phone interview technique with HR types. Managers can usually apply existing experience to their requirements, but HR folks understandably do not have the in-depth knowledge that the manager seeking a candidate does.
One of the in-company opportunities is turning out to be not much of a surprise. Manager contacts other managers needing people for Iraq right away. My management responds that I am interested, but my clearance is not high enough for what they are asking for. Then they respond back that I could get an interim higher-level clearance. Yes, I am still interested. Then the clearance level for the position was reduced to what I already have. Yes, I am still interested. Then the field manager stops badgering for new bodies. Oh well.
I do have one other contact. A former coworker contacted me in December about an opportunity with his old firm, supporting NOAA, coming up in March. At the time I thought I would be wasting their time, but will be making contact today.
One complication is the 401K loan I have outstanding. From my understanding I will somehow have to pay that back, but I don't see how. If I find something within the firm that will not be an issue.
loan (Score:2)
I'd be shocked if you had to still be working for the employer to pay back the loan.
Not that I know, but that would be my expectation.
