Your local library may offer e-books you can read just fine on a Nook, the Canberra library system does. All you need then is a friend in the US with a credit card

Lucas123 writes "Rite Aid today announced it is offering virtual fact-to-face physician consultations through an in-store kiosk. The virtual consultation services are currently being tested in the Detroit area, but the company expects they will do well and the virtual consults will expand to other regions. The service costs $45 for a 10-minute physician consultation. Consultations with nurses are free."

Look at CEF: http://code.google.com/p/chromiumembedded/
It lets you self-host a HTML widget(s) and works on Win32, OSX and Linux. Its a wrapper around the Chromium browser, I use it in the Steam client for showing web pages in our thick app.
