Submission + - Facebook Chat now accessible through XMPP ( 1

AceJohnny writes: "More than a year and a half after announcing imminent XMPP support, Facebook has finally activated XMPP access to Facebook Chat. Long after Google has shown the way with Google Talk and Gmail integration, it looks like XMPP has gained mainstream acceptance as an open alternative to proprietary systems such as {MSN,Windows Live} Messenger and AIM."

Submission + - Palm Pre reports your location, usage, to Palm ( 1

AceJohnny writes: "Joey Hess found that his Palm Pre was ratting on him. It turns out the Pre periodically uploads detailed information about the user, including installed apps, application usage (and crashes), as well as GPS coordinates to Palm. Submission + - McAfee Anti-Virus on Mobile Linux

AceJohnny writes: If you thought that Linux was a secure bastion against dangerous threats on the evil "Open Internet", McAfee believes you're wrong. At least on mobile applications, that is. McAfee has announced that they will develop security solutions for Moblin Linux, a linux distribution spearheaded by Intel and targeted at Mobile Internet Devices (MID, of which the Nokia n810 is an example).

As MIDs rely on the open Internet to bring applications and services to people, they will be susceptible to similar security challenges as the PC. McAfee's security solutions will help protect service providers and their subscribers from external threats.
