Submission + - Microsoft To Purchase Skype (wsj.com)

MBC1977 writes: "Rumor on Wall Street is that Microsoft is expected to announce Tuesday that they have purchased Skype for $7 to $8 Billion dollars. Can Microsoft do better than eBay (who also had purchased Skype and sold it back to the founders for 2.75 Billion dollars) with this purchase?"

Submission + - Dr. Bose To Donate Company to M.I.T. (cnn.com)

MBC1977 writes: "(From the Article):

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology announced Friday that Bose, the 81-year-old founder of the sound system company that bears his name, has donated the majority of Bose Corp.'s stock to the school.

Very cool indeed!"

Submission + - Apple Thinks of The Children (Seriously) (theregister.co.uk)

MBC1977 writes: Apparently the Apple is continuing their defense of the children by limiting the purchases of their new iPad (for life mind you, as one gentleman found out). At what point does a company's genius crossover into insanity, is the $64,000 dollar question of the day.

Submission + - Valedictorian Penalized For Overachievment

MBC1977 writes: One has to seriously wonder whether our schools are out to promote students' ability to excel, when you read articles like this.

One has to ask whether schools really want students to succeed or just do "well enough".

Submission + - Potential Work for Auction on Ebay

MBC1977 writes: From the article, "A student puts a percentage of his future income up for sale on eBay, hoping investors will cover his education costs"

This brings up an interesting question, how does one quantify an individual's (or any potential job position) work / delivery potential? I wonder because this could change the dynamic of employer / worker relationships and how they are valued.
