seems like the average life expectancy of SSDs are well beyond the needs of most people at the moment, unless you're doing some serious content creation with massive amounts of read/writes.

Different usage patterns have different gains.
Talk time is more than 100% increased.
Video watching time is 10% increased.
Lots of other use cases fall in between these numbers.

I think a factory this big is going to lead to a thousand smaller businesses being started in the area or moving from other locations to service Tesla itself and the large population of people that Tesla will employ.
I've met many 40's and up Android users who say they wanted an iPhone but bought an Android because they couldn't read on the iPhone screen because it was too small. So the larger screen size is a feature that many people will cite when the buy the iPhone 6.
It's also got between 10% and 100%+ battery life improvement. They didn't focus on that but it's pretty important to many.
Don't forget that Elon's first focus is not making money but about changing the world.

What do you think the US would do if China had missile boats patrolling off the coast of Florida in "international waters" or if they were coordinating military exercises with Russia of the coast of LA, as we do with their rival, Japan, off of their coast.
