Submission + - Dutch experts hack Google Glass (volkskrant.nl)

rvw writes: Dutch computer experts have devised a trick for infiltrating and taking over Glass, Google's information glasses. With a few rows of additional software, hackers can take photos and make films without the Glass wearer even knowing. These images can then be sent to another computer. Anyone with malicious intentions can use a USB stick to enter a 'script' in the glasses at an unguarded moment which then allows them to take control.

I wish people would stop using the word "Drone" unless it is a truly autonomous vehicle.

Do you want to say the drones the US sends to bomb the Taliban are not drones? I'm quite certain they are controlled by someone in the US. Maybe they can find their way back to safety if the connection is lost, but they are in no way autonomous. In that definition a V2 or Tomahawk is a drone, and everybody agrees that they are not.

Is that figure just based on some arbitrary appraisal of the the machine's time or what?
$150k counts as a lot of electricity. Even at the current difficulty, I find it hard to believe someone could have used that much power to mine only $8k worth of BTC.

So how did they get that number? Prorated over the expected useful lifetime, so quite possibly one or two days of CPU time at 500 million dollars total depreciated over 18 months?

I guess they hired a RIAA lawyer, and he tries to copyright those bitcoins!

I've been looking for myself, and one that stood out was the Xperia Z1 compact from sony. My primary issue was the battery endurance, but it seems to be able to get all the frequencies required by 4G..

2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100
4G Network LTE 800 / 850 / 900 / 1700 / 1800 / 1900 / 2100 / 2600

I have it as well. It's compact, although an iPhone 5 is still a bit smaller. I really like the camera button. Press it long, and the camera opens without having to unlock the phone. It's fast, sound is good, even the loudspeaker. Waterproof! But that camera is a killer feature. Camera itself is not as good as a Nokia, but that button makes a real difference compared to other Android phones or the iPhone. 4G speed is great! In the Netherlands one provider has countrywide coverage and where 3G does not work, 4G does.

Comment Problem solving (Score 2) 158

I'm considering this as well. I think it depends on your personal skills. The past ten years I've been many times in a situation where nobody else could help me out with a particular problem (programming, sysadmin etc). The only help I got was from online resources, and to use those effectively I developed the skill to write good questions, to do basic research before asking, and to write everything out that I had tried, so people helping me wouldn't waste their time.

I can listen, explain stuff in a simple way (which is not always simple to do), and I think these skills can be useful in very different situations. The only catch: how to find such a job?! Tips are welcome! (Netherlands, Europe)

Frankly, with the way things are in this country, I hope it begins to pinch our wallets. It's the only way most Americans, from the corporate bigwigs to the politicians to the straphangers and soccer moms in the suburbs, ever take anything seriously. People need to wake up.

It's not the only way. It's the only way you can think of, but there is one other way, by being occupied - by external or internal forces. But of course you could still stay with your argument because that still hurts in the wallet.
