haven't heard anything exciting to me personally about solaris in 10 years.

check out bluephone elite. its for the mac, but it does everything the OP wants
safari 4 has coverflow for browsing history and its bookmarks and history are all really searchable now.

The imac can to multiple screens too. it has a mini display port on the back and can do extended desktop up to 2560x1600 just like all the other computers with a display port.

then you should configure it so that only members of a specific group are SSH users. Then by default no one can login with SSH. A whitelist is much more effective here.
Put
AllowGroups sshusers
in your sshd_config file and then only members of the sshusers group can login via ssh
