Submission + - Zuckerberg Only Eating Animals He Personally Kills

theodp writes: Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has begun personally slaying animals for food, part of a resolution to fully appreciate the meat he eats by limiting it to that which he personally kills. Zuckerberg has mostly been vegetarian since making the vow, but his hands-on kills thus far include a goat, pig, chicken and a lobster. 'He cut the throat of the goat with a knife,' Zuckerberg pal Jesse Cool told FORTUNE, 'which is the most kind way to do it.' Guess it beats a chocolate bars and milk subsistence.

Submission + - EFF co-founder faces copyright heavyweights at eG8 (arstechnica.com)

ndogg writes: "EFF co-founder, and Grateful Dead lyricist, John Perry Barlow faced down copyright heavyweights the likes of French President Nicolas Sarkozy, Jim Gianopulos of 20th Century Fox, and French Culture Minister Frédéric Mitterand. He was on a panel he described as "the Lions Den" discussing issues of intellectual property, and he was the lone dissenting voice on the panel. Mitterand had commented that copyright debates had grown so calm now that everyone agreed upon the ground rules. Barlow shook things up for once."

Submission + - Facebook - "Wants under 13's to use Facebook" (dailymail.co.uk)

NSN A392-99-964-5927 writes: The founder of Facebook says he will ‘fight’ to allow under-13s to use the social networking website – despite warnings it would put the most vulnerable children at risk.

At present, those under 13 are banned from Mark Zuckerberg’s site in Britain under a voluntary ‘good practice’ code.

In America the age limit, also of 13, is dictated by laws designed to protect young children, but Facebook’s 27-year-old billionaire creator believes the educational benefits of using the site mean the restrictions should be lifted.

Submission + - Ask Slashdot: DVD Backup 2

An anonymous reader writes: I've been trying to find a way to back up my DVDs to an external hard drive. All the DVD rippers I can find cost, and I would prefer to do this for free. Any of the ones that are free haven't been updated in quite some time because of legal issues. Does the Slashdot crowd know of any good, free rippers that can handle new DVDs?

Submission + - Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal Released - See What`s N (webupd8.org)

An anonymous reader writes: After the usual 6 months of development, Ubuntu 11.04 has finally been released.

Ubuntu 11.04 doesn't come with GNOME 3 / GNOME Shell (in fact it's not even available in the repositories but only in a PPA) and instead it comes with an interface designed especially for Ubuntu called Unity (based on GNOME 2.x). Unity was already default in Ubuntu 10.10 netbook edition but besides being default for the desktop edition (the netbook edition doesn't exist anymore starting with 11.04), it was also completely re-written and now uses Compiz.

Submission + - Who's buying Windows Vista?

athloi writes: "Apparently Microsoft sold 20 million copies of Windows Vista in its first two months of life after official launch. This is three million more than Windows XP sold, possibly boosted by the coupons and discounts and incentives Microsoft is offering. Submission + - Microsoft: Vista adoption rate double that of XP

thefickler writes: More than 20 million copies of Windows Vista have been sold in its debut month, according to Microsoft.

Microsoft said that the adoption rate of Vista is more than double that of Windows XP, which took two months to reach sales of 17 million.

These sales figures must come as a pleasant surprise to Microsoft. Just over a month ago Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer told analysts that they were "somewhat too bullish" about the sales of Vista.
