An anonymous reader writes: The Street View feature of Google Maps has been expanded beyond its former nine-city scope, adding Chicago, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, Portland, Tucson, and my home town of Philadelphia. Hey, I can see my house from here! They mapped my street on a Monday morning this summer. Thanks guys, but next time try not to come on trash day!

No searches or seizures of any kind have ever been performed on rsync.net assets." Obviously, "special note should be taken if these messages ever cease being updated, or are removed from this page." This weekly declaration was last updated 9 days ago.

Audrius writes: Skype just released a Windows beta client that will be able to send 640x480 sized video at 25-30 fps using some Logitech webcam models. Quite a step forward from the usual 320x240@15 quality offered by Skype and others.

s31523 writes: "In an effort to cut the cost of teaching information technology, Russian schools have adopted a plan to have all computers running Linux by 2009. According to Alexey Smirnov, Director General of the Company ALTLinux, schools formerly tended to run illegal copies of Microsoft operating systems, but after Russia entered the WTO, the laws became much stricter and schools began to be prosecuted for doing so. Some have criticized the plan, saying students will have trouble finding jobs later due to a lack of familiarity with the Windows OS."

Commander Peggy Whitson, Flight Engineer Yuri Malenchenko and spaceflight participant Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor will launch from the Baikonur Cosmodrome Wednesday at 9:22 a.m. EDT. Two days later the Soyuz TMA-11 vehicle carrying the new crew will dock to the Earth-facing port of the station's Zarya module.

It's designed to serve as a supplemental operating system you duel boot to for this purpose. It's modern, however, supporting 64-bit (only) computing and multicore processors. It's like the old days when you could access all memory, use all instructions, access all ports, read all disk blocks. The memory space is identity mapped to physical memory so you can easily have processes interact. It has the most advanced command-line on the planet, seriously. From the story: They are asking volunteers on the Internet to help classify the galaxies as either elliptical or spiral and note, where possible, in which direction they rotate. Astronomers say computer programs have been unable to reliably classify the star systems. With 10,000 to 20,000 people working to classify the galaxies, the process could take as little as a month. With /. alone, they might be able to do it in a week. Give them a helping hand by signing up at Galaxy Zoo.
