I don't really buy into all the "OMG wage-slave conspiracy Rothschilds eleventyOne" shit, but this - the absence of basic financial education, on both sides of the pond - is one of those things that makes me do a double take.

I definitely remember being taught how compound interest works. I must have been younger than 10 - I remember the teacher and I changed schools at 11. It was in a separate subject he called "practical maths".

All those Xs and Vs and Ms were a right bugger.

I donno, the Chinese seem to be willing to actually punish corporate executive and government official types from time to time.

I suspect there's very little overlap between those punished and those who are guilty.

When I say guilty I'm referring to the coruption etc. that they're charged with. Clearly they're guilty of being a threat to someone in power, or not paying the right bribes.

Speaking as a veteran (Not a raging libertarian) I can tell you that you would likely see entire units refuse to fire on American civilians. In fact we are taught to disobey unlawful orders.

Officer: fire!

[uneasy silence, some shuffling of feet]

Officer: They're cormanusts! And terrusts! And queers, probably.

Dakka-dakka-dak! Dakka-dakka-dakka dak!
