Not by the time financial transaction software developers like Fidelity Information Services get a hold of it. How is running a daemon compiled together with it's monitor in a GUI-based .COM object even remotely "working pretty damn well"? Don't get me wrong, I've heard all the fairy tale applications for .NET, and sure it could have some uses.. But any .NET app I've ever seen has been a nightmare. Had to build server images with very specific versions of every single OS patch and interpretor, otherwise the thing went tits up... This is not what .NET was "supposed" to be about, but in the end it was utter crap.

I've been using Enlightenment since DR13, but never made the switch to E17. Tried it a few times, but only on test boxes. Sometimes I forget they call 0.16.x "E16" now, the "development release" moniker disappeared some time ago. Never really figured out why E didn't catch on with more of the server geeks who choose lean desktops even when their workstation is a monster.. IMHO, if you prefer FluxBox, WindowMaker, or XFCE (to name a few) you are choosing the Mustang over the GT-40 when you can easily afford the latter (please excuse the barbaric analogy).

Some of us "Linux Cronies" work in heterogeneous environments and have used EVERY major OS there ever was and ever will be. As an MSDN member, I probably had Windows 7 before you did. I personally did not "like" it, but it seems pretty solid. However, my Solaris, Macintosh, Gentoo and even FreeBSD boxes ALL write to (fiber san) disk significantly faster than my most tweaked out Windows images. Which really sucks for me, because the main app I support is Adobe CS5!
