Are you from 1998?
Ah yes, ergonomics. The thing with little science dictated by someone in HR who barely made it past high school....
The A-10s were cheap to build..back in the 70s. Keeping the A-10 program running in the 21st century actually costs $700M per year.
If you are going to cheat, why bother playing? just tell people you play, it's the same thing but with less effort.
And Shakespeare did all the plots, therefore nothing good has been written since.
That is what you sound like.
No, not really. Now it's just a geek point thing.
I play nethack because obscure is cool., plus references.
To nipick, it's actually just under 1.5M atmospheres.
That's not a pun.
The headline could be confusing. The garage was significant. My point is that people extend the concept in their heads and imagine a lot more than it really was. That is the myth part.
Shadowstats is crap.
Still does.
There isn't as much work, but what needs to be done is critical.
So there aren't a lot of candidate.
A Sr. C programmer should be making 200K; which is down from 400K in '99

" "AI" consists of a bunch of rules - heuristics, sometimes - slung together with some software or other."
which describes the human mind as well.
Your post seem to indicate that you fall into the mind/brain trap. You think your mind is above simple rules when in fact you mind is a byproduct of the rules of your brain.
"As I understand it, "intelligence" is the ability to recognize patterns."
In that case, AI is here.
Without out me every telling it how or making a request to do so my phone recognizes my driving pattern, notes where I park, reminds me of appointments, and so on.
There is software you can get that negotiates meeting times with other people for you.
You know, there is software that can look at data and come up with a mathematical representation of the pattern that makes predictions? And that this system has looked at data, and created a formula that make prediction 100%, and people do not understand the formula? is that AI? Look up Eureka software.
I don't know what you think about high level chess, but what you describe the computer doing is what people do, just not as well.
" But it was established over half a century ago that computing power was far more important than sophisticated tweaking of the algorithms"
nonsense. I don't mean wrong, I literally mean that statement is nonsensical. Depends on use, depends on platform limitation, depend on available energy, and many other factors. To draw the two together like that makes no sense.
Except it depends on what power generation you are supplanting. You also won't be offsetting at 1 to 1.
I like the plan, but lets keep in real.
It matters in that the power companies wont need to spin up there plants as much; that when the most CO2 is emitted.
Assuming you use coal.
