Comment 68% profits overseas - but we want all the jobs! (Score 1) 365

Look at the hypocrisy in this thread. Everybody is outraged that MS is moving jobs outside the country, while making their profits there! So you need the rest of the world to pay you but they shouldn't get anything back? And you guys go preaching the world about how to live! Fucking hypocrites!

It doesn't hurt iPhone sales, at least not by much. People will adapt to it - by putting a hard case or whatever else required. You must remember that more than half of iPhone buyers are not buying because they objectively evaluated it and judged it to be the best phone they can have. They buy it because it is THE thing to have. So what if it has problems, as long as there is a solution (may be even better if Apple makes an expensive, really expensive) case, it will become even more aspirational. "I'm soo rich I can afford not just the phone, but also this case"!

They don't need to take on Intel and x86. They just need to make a profit on each system sold.

You do realize that these things are not like a boutique where each unit is independent, right? They have to sell x million to break even and more millions to make decent profits out of that.

And, even then they still have to compete with Intel & x86, to keep those sales from drying up, so they can keep the business alive for the next year and the year after...

Submission + - SpaceX Hit with Second Suit from Employees, Allege Unpaid Wages (law360.com)

An anonymous reader writes: Law360 (paywall — https://www.law360.com/article...) is reporting, for the second time in a week, employees of SpaceX are sueing the company for "failing to provide rest breaks or pay full wages." This follows another recent complaint "accusing the company of laying off up to 400 employees without proper notification. (http://law360.com/articles/564591; http://legalnewsline.com/issue...)

For me, their spam filtering has gone to shit. What used to be an occasional miss earlier is a regular feature now. It's almost like I have to go through two folders (Inbox and Spam) and keep shuffling things around. I'm not saying error rate is 50%, but I am not able to trust Yahoo! not to send some important mail to spam folder!

I did RTFA and found this gem: "the iOS version of the RCS Trojans hits only jailbroken devices". Also
“Once the sample is ready, the attacker delivers it to the mobile device of the victim. Some of the known infection vectors include spearphishing via social engineering – often coupled with exploits, including zero-days; and local infections via USB cables while synchronizing mobile devices,”

So, ya, while this is bad, it is not in the same league as what NSA's surveillance of everyone and everything is.

Submission + - Mt. Gox CEO Returns to Twitter, Enrages Burned Investors

An anonymous reader writes: Mark Karpeles doesn't seem to understand how much anger and trouble the $400 million Mt. Gox fiasco caused his customers. According to Wired: "After a long absence, the Mt Gox CEO has returned to Twitter with a bizarre string of tone-deaf tweets that were either written by a Turing test chat bot, or by a man completely oblivious to the economic chaos he has wrought. His first message after losing hundreds of millions of dollars worth of bitcoins? 'What would we do without busybox?'—a reference to a slimmed-down Linux operating system used on devices such as routers. He’s also Tweeted about a noodle dish called yakisoba and Japanese transportation systems." Andreas Antonopoulos, the CSO with Blockchain says, "He continues to be oblivious about his own failure and the pain he has caused others. He is confirming that he is a self-absorbed narcissist with an inflated sense of self-confidence who has no remorse.”
