Submission + - The grinch that stole Halowe'en

MouseTheLuckyDog writes: A crazy woman in North Dakota will be giving obese children notes for their parents instead of candy.

What kind of trick should the obese children play on her? My vote is getting together and burning ... well I may be a bit extreme.

PS: All the pendants out there will notice I used the apostrophe. Just to keep you guys happy.

Submission + - The new CEO of Microsoft is ... Bill Gates? 3

MouseTheLuckyDog writes: The New York times is speculating that the new CEO of Microsoft could be Bill Gates

Now a lot of people have been saying that it was Ballmer's assumption to the CEO job that has led Microsoft's decline. I have always maintained that while Ballmer has not been the best of CEOs that the decline was not his fault and is more of a result of forces put into play at Microsoft a long, long time ago.

So what do you think would BG's return signal a reemergence of MS?

Submission + - WTF Ben Affleck as Batman

MouseTheLuckyDog writes: What can I say: after creating the Adam West series and dragging the franchise way down. TPTB came back with Michael Keaton and Tim Burton, only to again drag the series down even worst then West. Somehow they made some very intelligent decisions using Christian Bale and Chris Nolan to resurect Batman.

Now they seem determined to drag it down by
casting Ben Affleck as the new Batman, in the Superman sequel.

Submission + - George ZImmerman and Google Glasses

MouseTheLuckyDog writes: In the interest of full disclosure, I think that George Zimmerman's story is a bit off but close to the truth. However, for the sake of this story let us assume that one of the various theories of how George Zimmerman committed murder is true. Would he have been convicted? No, because there was absolutely no proof, but there could have been proof.

If there were a camera at the location, it would have recorded the whole thing. and there would have been proof. It is too late to capture George Zimmerman, but not too late for the next guy. All we have to do is have cameras everywhere.

Now the question is are you willing to let a vigilante go free, or would you rather have camera's everywhere. The case was full of all sorts of ironies, but to me the biggest one is that many of the people that most wanted to see Zimmerman found guilty are the same people that do not want cameras everywhere, that oppose traffic cameras and are happy that there are establishments that forbid the wearing of google glasses.

Submission + - "Hackers" interupt the Zimmerman trial.

MouseTheLuckyDog writes: Today during the George Zimmerman trial, an ex-professor of George Zimmerman's was allowed to testify via Skype while on vacation. When setting it up the prosecution didn't have the sense to blank the destination account. The result according to the smoking gun was a flood of callers to the desination account resulting in the connection being terminafed and cross examination being done on a cell phone in the wirness box.

Submission + - Microsoft fails to acquire Nokia 1

MouseTheLuckyDog writes: Ars is reporting a failed attempt by Microsoft to acquire Nokia. Ars is also reported that talks are not likely to restartt. I see things a bit differently.

Given Nokia's position Elop's job is very much at risk. Should Elop be fired, the directors will be bringing in someone with a new plan. One which deemphasises the use of WP. This would be a disaster for MS already low market share in the phone arena.

Another aspect is that should Elop get fired, for the first time in history "Someone will have been fired for using Microsoft." A fact that could potentially reverberate very badly in other areas of MS.

For these two reasons, there is severe pressure on MS to acquire Nokia before Elop gets fired.

There is however another aspect to this deal. WIth Nokia's large portfolio, it is very likely that both Apple and Google will complain to antitrust authorities in the EU and the EU anitrust people have not been kind to MS.
