Submission + - Nokia and Apple settle patent dispute (bbc.co.uk)

TheInternetGuy writes: Nokia has announced that Apple has agreed to pay royalties for use of its technologies, ending the long-running legal dispute between the two firms.

"The agreement will result in settlement of all patent litigation between the companies," the Finnish firm said.

Submission + - Japan underestimated the risks (bbc.co.uk)

TheInternetGuy writes:

A UN nuclear safety team (IAEA) on a visit to the country has said that Japan underestimated the risk of a tsunami hitting a nuclear power plant. However, the response to the nuclear disaster which followed the 11 March quake and tsunami was "exemplary".

I am wondering how the IAEA came to the conclusion that the disaster response has been exemplary. I live close enough that I have to wash the vegetables from my garden before eating ( yeah I know, that's a good Idea any way), so I know it enough to have an opinion.
To be honest, lets not forget that they have been working under very difficult circumstances. But Exemplary??? Not so much.
