Submission + - Only one 2008 Presidential Candidate in Texas (state.tx.us) 1

drachenstern writes: "Quoting a political blogger we see that

Bob Barr is slated to be the only presidential candidate on the ballot in Texas after Republicans and Democrats missed the Aug. 26 deadline to file in the state.

"Unless the state of Texas violates their own election laws, Congressman Barr will be the only presidential candidate on the ballot," says Russell Verney, campaign manager for the Barr Campaign and the former campaign manager for Ross Perot. "Texas law makes no exceptions for missing deadlines."

and here's the website in question: http://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/candidates/general/2008gensbs.shtml"

Submission + - Rackmount USB 1U Bar

drachenstern writes: "My company is looking for a rackmountable powered USB hub in a 1U formfactor, preferably not more than two inches thick. I would like to find one with between four and seven available ports, so no exotic chipsets are required. Even though I've tried all of the regular search methods, and made quite a few phone calls, I have not been able to come up with any leads. I figure the most responsible action I can do at this point is to ask for help, and who better to ask about wierd or unusual hardware items than the slashdot crowd. Can anyone help me?"

Submission + - Where to download videos for my WMV player?

drachenstern writes: "My wife has an iPod video, and for my nephew we picked up a Disney Max Mix (you'll notice they haven't even put the product on their site for support) so he could watch videos. However, now we cannot find any sites which offer an iTunes style video download process for WMVs, although we are very impressed with the streaming video options. So my question to the Slashdot crowd is where can users download WMV or similar videos which can be easily transferred to portable media players so that we can all appear to be the respective heroes of our Christmas toys wonderlands this season?

Just for the record, we've tried all the usual suspects, including the Rhapsody network, Urge, Napster, AOLMusicNow, and even out of desperation confirmed that Wal-Mart and the Zune Marketplace do not offer this service. For those keeping score at home, we are looking to download youngster appropriate materials, including Disney videos. He's at that age that he is into Hannah Montana and the Cheetah Girls."

Submission + - Which digital media player

drachenstern writes: "My wife is fast becoming a non-luddite, and after I managed to drag her kicking and screaming into the local Apple Store at the local mall, I showed her the iPod nano. She instantly keyed into the photo-slideshow capability, and so now would love the idea of being able to tote all her favorite albums and clear pictures on one small device. The issue: Her laptop is Windows XP — Home (SP2) and all her songs are in WMA format*. So my question, my fellow Slashdotters, is what digital media player would you recommend for (my wife or) an up-and-coming technogeek?

For the record, I am down to the new Zen V Plus or the Nano, but I am not enough of an audiophile to know about all the different players on the market right now. While I would just change the formats on the songs that I would listen to, I don't think that she will be willing to learn how to do that, considering that we have verging on 20 gb of 64-128 kbps encoded songs."
