Journal Journal: Weekend Snow means Winter Food Time 3
SJ's Mince Pie
==============
Software:
2 lb Ground Beef / Turkey / Chicken / Soylent Green
Handful of Baby Carrots
1 Onion, size and taste to suit the eater
1-4 Cloves of Garlic, again to suit
2 stalks of celery, cleaned
1 - 3 tbls Worchestershire Sauce
2 tbls Flour
2 - 3 servings of Mashed Potatoes or reasonable substitute (I used instant potatoes I nuked in the microwave)
2 tbls of cooking oil (I use Olive Oil)
2 - 3 Bay Leaves
Parsley for Garnish
Hardware:
Cooking pan
Casserole
Food Processor
Spoons
Piping bag (optional)
Instructions:
Preheat over to 325.
Take Carrots, Onion, Garlic and Celery and put them in the food processor until they're chopped very fine. They should be about 30 seconds short of liquid.
Put the cooking oil into the pan at med-high. Spoon in the vegitables, cook for about two minutes. Add in the ground meat. Continue to cook until meat is well browned throughout (about 7 more minutes). Add Worchestershire sauce, flour, stir. Reduce heat to simmer. Add Bay Leaves, cook for an additional 20-30 mins stirring occasionally.
Spoon Meat / Vegetable mixture into a dish, leaving excess drippings. Try to get it even across the bottom of the casserole. With a spoon, or piping bag, place the potatoes on top, again trying to spread evenly. I used a spoon and had holes in the top of the casserole - it still tasted great. Place casserole in the oven uncovered for 30 minutes.
Remove from oven, garnish liberally with parsley. I suggest letting it set up for a few minutes before trying to eat, but I didn't personally have that sort of patience.
Suggest serving in a bowl as it tends to be a little loose unless your plate has a healthy lip on it.
