They've been floundering for years. They've gone through reorg after reorg. Their margins were eroded by other companies who came up with more competitive products. Their certifications are practically useless in all but the most die-hard Cisco shop and those are starting to go away as well.
Cisco was an innovative company that created huge market value. Now they're becoming "lean, agile" company with no real vision or future. They want to be "market focused" yet they're supposed to push the market to their view of technology and to create markets. When you lead from behind you certainly take on less risk but you sure don't create the profit margins and patent portfolio investors look for. Sell your shares now.
to a degree I'm upset.
New Methodology blah blah Agile blah blah blah Waterfall blah blah blah
Nobody wants to hear that! What they want to hear is when their software will be finished or their system ready. It has to work, work reliably, meet the requirements and be on time. That's all the customer wants.
Wayne County maybe but there are areas that are doing quite well.
CDC Mission Statement:
CDC works 24/7 to protect America from health, safety and security threats, both foreign and in the U.S. Whether diseases start at home or abroad, are chronic or acute, curable or preventable, human error or deliberate attack, CDC fights disease and supports communities and citizens to do the same.
CDC increases the health security of our nation. As the nation’s health protection agency, CDC saves lives and protects people from health threats. To accomplish our mission, CDC conducts critical science and provides health information that protects our nation against expensive and dangerous health threats, and responds when these arise.
I'm thinking someone was asleep on the job. The Response side of the equation was definitely lacking.
Agreed, this is a horrible problem and the numbers are increasing in terms of infections and deaths in Africa. The biggest issue with other nations is complacency in believing that local and national health officials can handle it when it spreads outside of Africa. It's clearly being proven not the case in Texas and in Spain with healthcare workers getting infected. I'm not sure the WHO even has the resources to combat this.
Really have you read the latest from the dumbfuck running the CDC? Would you consider the Washington Post a good source of information?
“We did send some expertise in infection control,” Thomas Frieden said during a news conference Tuesday. “But I think we could, in retrospect, with 20/20 hindsight, have sent a more robust hospital infection control team and been more hands-on with the hospital from day one about exactly how this should be managed.”
Inept and incompetent and I'm sorry but a mia culpa isn't going to cut it.
This goes to show how much we rely on so-called experts in this area and they have no fucking clue what they're doing. The CDC, the NIH should have been all over that hospital. This is not a lab experiment, and until they can come up with the protocols to assure healthcare workers safety then they need to start quarantining all people who come in contact with a contagious patient or sending them to a standardized facility where the risks to the public can be minimized.
So that means you're not certified then?
Well Cardwell also complained about this back in 2012 as well. http://www.zdnet.com/t-mobile-... So it seems that t-Mobile UK is the culprit here and should be thoroughly smacked upside the head. The article I linked indicated that they do this for "contractual" and "Fair-use" reasons. It's stupid so I'd find another carrier.
it says " ISPs violating net neutrality to block encryption." It's t-mobs smtp services on t-mobs network, was this happening to GMAIL and Yahoo or any other SMTP services using the same network? No? Then this whole article is FUD. You suspect t-mobile but if it's not why not identify the culprit in the article so we can say that this is fucked up or just plain misconfiguration?
This article is full of hyperbole
This is scary. If ISPs are actively trying to block the use of encryption, it shows how they might seek to block the use of VPNs and other important security protection measures, leaving all of us less safe.
This article and the write up are misrepresenting what's happening. You're trying to talk to an SMTP server, not the whole Internet. For some reason the SMTP server isn't supporting STARTTLS which is dumb, stupid and down right naive. They don't mention which broadband carrier but it would be nice to know so we could all do a Nelson and go "ha! ha!" The simple answer is allow them to fix their problem or just use another SMTP service that respects your transmission privacy preferences to all services they provide to you. They're not responsible for providing security to other services not under their control.
Since this is a wireless carrier you do have some protections regarding the network encryption already supporting your connection back to them. I won't get into CAVE or GSM security and any flaws but this is just a stupid ISP with one service not accepting TLS. What happens if you say try that at a GMAIL or YAHOO server instead on the same network? I don't see that scenario played out in the article. I for one know what happens there, it would have just been nice if these guys would have done a bit more investigation.
yes revenue keeps the business going. I've worked with a lot of developers who get frustrated with old codebases and true there is some code that should be abandoned. It's always good to have an architectural vision of where the code is going because it doesn't exist in a vacuum.
An Ada exception is when a routine gets in trouble and says 'Beam me up, Scotty'.
