Wasn't Intuit sued for deceptive practices over their "free filing"?
Yet here we are wanting to give them more taxpayer funds?

Shame on us for voting for these idiots.

People have characteristics that eventually can lead them to obsession or compulsive behaviors; call it what it is then an addiction. I've seen people obsess over social media and invest hours a day in unproductive endeavors wasted on social media. Christ! read a book, volunteer for something but get off the fucking cell phone! Honestly, the problem is the cell phone or specifically the smartphone. With so many apps looking for your attention, time or resources start with downgrading that instead of something simpler. If it doesn't exist anymore is no reason not to push manufacturers with our dollars to simpler solutions that don't put an addictive system in your face.

And no darn credit card fees.

That's what Debit Cards were supposed to be originally but invariably those were issued by banks who had to pay network fees to use the same terminals that credit cards used. Those terminals/networks etc. are cost components as are the transactions processed at a bank. If the gov't wants you to use digital currency there will need to be technology costs associated with dealing with that as well. It's a panacea of dumb. As for privacy, nobody needs to know that I gave that stripper a $20 tip for services rendered. In the new digital currency world, she'll have to pay tax on that $20 and I'll owe a $10 transaction fee for using a service that the gov't doesn't approve of.

This is an old problem with a new twist. Yes, Log4J has a security hole but so do a lot of other dependencies whether FOSS or paid for. What's missing is the critical stable production support called for in SDLC practices. It never gets factored into a project but it's still a necessity. It's no different than keeping your car's tires properly inflated by checking them periodically. If a company comes in and does a vulnerability scan, management needs to own the risk if there are compromised dependencies the system owners and IT management need to prioritize the remediation including but not limited to early retirement of the system. There's also another aspect that's being overlooked in a lot of these responses, most security threats are from within an organization.

Another aspect of this as a best practice avoid bringing in large built-in dependencies that try to do too much. Log4J is an example of a great idea that went down a rabbit hole of bloat and feature creep.
