Submission + - Hibernate(R) and JBoss(R) ?

popeyethesailor writes: Redhat Legal has been busy of late. They've been sending out C&D letters to several consultants offering training services for Hibernate and JBoss. Apparently, it has to be HIBERNATE(R) Object Relational Mapping Software Training or, as another example, JBoss(R) Application Server Training.

Submission + - ICANN Set To Review Accreditation Policy

tinkertim writes: "ICANN is re-evaluating the scope and purpose of its accreditations , apparently sparked by the recent collapse of garage domain name registrar Registerfly. In a press release dated March 21, 2007, President and CEO of ICANN, Dr Paul Twomey is quoted as saying :

"What has happened to registrants with RegisterFly.com has made it clear there must be comprehensive review of the registrar accreditation process and the content of the RAA".
Dr. Twomey is blaming (in part) "weaknesses in the RAA" for severe and undue hardships that many registrants encountered when trying to transfer names away from the failing registrar, Registerfly.

Many new points to be discussed include allowing registrants to view the performance of registrars in an "independent comparative way", as well as new language to allow ICANN to forcibly intercede in the face of wide spread, persistent and consistent complaints. 10 good points for discussion are listed by Dr. Twomey in the release, who invites all ICANN stakeholders to participate in re-evaluating the RAA.

Registerfly, the catalyst for this re-write does not officially lose their accredited status until March 31, 2007, and continues to display the ICANN seal on their web site."

Oracle

Submission + - Oracle's Red Hat support business attracts Yahoo!

prostoalex writes: "Oracle's decision to download copies of Red Hat Linux and sell support for it at consistently lower prices than Red Hat seems to be paying off, as the company announced Yahoo! as one of its prominent customers buying support for Red Hat Linux. What CNET article doesn't mention is that Yahoo!'s core infrastructure runs FreeBSD, so both Oracle and Red Hat are now competing for non-crucial Yahoo! accounts that are unlikely to list thousands and thousands of servers."

The article gives an overview of each project and it's associated company's business model, as well as a short run down of a few of the interesting features of each project."

Submission + - 3d Graphics, the math everyone should know

holden writes: "Graphics programming is seen as the cool thing by a large number of people. A lot of confusion arises when people attempt to do 3d graphics programming without the proper mathematical background in basic linear algebra. Christopher Evensen recently gave a talk covering covering the important fundamentals. The math is also accompanied by a real world programming example (yay 3d astroids!)."

Submission + - Movie pirates want DVD sniffer dogs killed

freedom_india writes: In continuation of the previous story about using sniffer dogs to detect pirated CD and DVDs, it seems two malaysian dogs (flo and Lucky) helped detect and bust a fake DVD ring costing pirates about $3 million.
http://www.smh.com.au/news/unusual-tales/pirates-w ant-lucky-and-flo-whacked/2007/03/22/1174153232231 .html
Now, the pirates have put a bounty on the dogs' heads, because "...In Tuesday's raid, the two dogs helped seize a cache of around a million pirated game and movie discs in the southern city of Johor Baru, neighbouring Singapore. At least six people were arrested..."
"The dogs are being given a month's trial by Malaysian officials in a joint effort with the Motion Picture Association, which groups six major Hollywood film companies."
So is this the begining of a a new Dogs era by MPAA?
Google

Submission + - Google's Second-Class Citizens

theodp writes: "Valleywag reports on a new caste system at Google, which will mean compulsory lunch breaks, two additional unpaid 15-minute breaks, limited OT and e-clock punching for those reclassified as hourly workers come April. Could be worse, though. Google also offers gigs through WorkforceLogic (who helped Microsoft deal with pesky permatemps), which comes with a guarantee of unemployment after one year. Guess that's what passes for the Best Employer in the US these days."

Shake Your Umbrella for a Random Song 112

thhamm writes "If you happen to see people wildly shaking and dancing with their white umbrellas in the street, don't call them crazy just yet. They might just be controlling their iPod with an iBrella: "The iBrella is a special umbrella that acts as an iPod interface. One can control the iPod just by his physical interactions with the iBrella." Theres a video of it in action, too. The ideal gadget to use while driving your motorized couch maybe?"
