Comment Adventure is not RPG (Score 1) 480

You're mentioning Diablo 1 & 2, but those are not adventures by far.
If you are asking for good adventures, the answer is Broken Sword 1 & 2, The Longest Journey, Siberia, Gabriel Knight 3, Lost Horizon, ... these games are not necessarily new, but they are fun to play and Broken Sword especially is a game that one generation has grown up on.

If you are asking for RPG (Diablo-like games), then the answer is Fallout 1, 2, 3, Tactics; Albion (old), Final Fantasy VII, Oblivion, Baldur's Gate 2, and there are hundreds of other good RPG's - they vary in genre, so you can pick one your children prefer - fantasy, scifi, futur noir, ...
anyway, most of the RPG's are single player and include violence in more or less brutal way. If you like your children to play some good, multiplayer, non-violent game, maybe you could go for MMORPG's like Eve Online, where you don't get to (1) fights with other pilots (2) person-to-person fights; if you don't want to... You can actually play peaceful career and it's still a lot of fun.

Submission + - Love is not blind (blogspot.com)

TheWiseFinch writes: "We talk so much of love quite often, of judging others' mistakes, of forgiveness, and all that. Here I am putting down a few words about all these aspects. We come across all these in our daily lives.
There is a common saying that "love is blind". To understand the truth of this statement, we must first know which is blind, affinity or version, liking or disliking?"

Submission + - Is there a silver bullet for reactor meltdowns? 1

Aku Head writes: In the context of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster, what if you could cover the overheating nuclear fuel with liquid aluminum? Aluminum is a good conductor of heat so that you could spray the aluminum with sea water to avoid melting. Would this solve the problems of decay heat and hydrogen generation? What if you alloyed the aluminum with neutron poisons such as hafnium or cadmium? Any other suggestions of something that you could cover the nuclear plant with to mitigate the problem?

Submission + - Has Christopher Nolan turned the 3D argument? (denofgeek.com)

brumgrunt writes: Not only has Christopher Nolan resisted pressure to make his third Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises, in 3D, but his explanation is very much centred on it being the right decision to suit the film. With Harry Potter (temporarily) abandoning 3D too, has Hollywood's latest bandwagon hit the skids already? http://www.denofgeek.com/movies/660851/is_christopher_nolan_making_the_dark_knight_rises_in_2d_a_turning_point.html

LSE Breaks World Record In Trade Speed With Linux 452

LingNoi writes with this excerpt from ComputerWorld UK: "The London Stock Exchange has said its new Linux-based system is delivering world record networking speed, with 126 microsecond trading times. The news comes ahead a major Linux-based switchover in twelve days, during which the open source system will replace Microsoft .Net technology on the group's main stock exchange. The LSE had long been criticised on speed and reliability, grappling with trading speeds of several hundred microseconds. The 126 microsecond speed is 'twice as fast' as its main international competitors, the London Stock Exchange said. BATS Europe and Chi-X, two dedicated electronic rivals to the LSE, are reported to have an average latency of 250 and 175 microseconds respectively. Neither company immediately provided details. But many of the LSE's older and more traditional rivals offer speeds of around 300 to 400 microseconds. Nevertheless, Linux is now standard in many exchanges, including the New York Stock Exchange."
