Comment Kill the goose that lays the golden egg (Score 1) 253

I love lichens, but I don't think they thought this one through all the way. If dairy proteins can be produced by lichens, then what need remains to continue the bovine species?

Domestication of milk producing bovines is how we choose to worship these animals. They manage the forest and in return we get milk out of the deal, it's a symbolic relationship. However, some idiot came along and thought it would be a good idea to slaughter them for their meat instead. Vegetarianism not veganism, that is to say consume the by-products produced by the animal, not the animal itself. This isn't rocket science; if you like to eat meat proteins, ideally they should come from lowered ordered non-sentient life forms, for example, chicken eggs.

Comment (Un)Fair Labor Standards Act (Score 1) 105

The Fair Labor Standards Act mandates that all professional computer positions are salaried exempt, for differently abled individuals this law is a nightmare as case law sets the minimum threshold to satisfy this requirement at 35 hours per week and makes it an essential function of the job. An because the ability to work full-time is an essential function of the job, this then in-turn means the person isn't considered disabled (i.e. they can work a regular 40 hour job), so the employer isn't required to make any attempt at making reasonable accommodations, and additionally, you can't even use the 12-weeks of FMLA, as if you can't work at least 35 hours per week on-average, then you can't satisfy the essential functions for the position and the employer can then fire you.

You don't need to rely on the H1-B visa program to import talent, they talent is already here, the primary thing that keeps neurodivergent individuals out of the STEM feilds is the FLSA full-time mandate. This law unfairly discriminates against a protected class and so it needs to be struck down as unconstitutional.

If I had to speculate I'd guess that America's computer security laws are only applicable to domestic situations, and if they extend overseas, only to allied countries with reciprocal extradition treaties. So would hacking someone like North Korea, China, Russia, et. al. be considered a lawful affirmative self defense if they attacked you first?

Yes we need more course for visual learners. However, Python is not for visual learners, it was designed for neurotypicals by neurotypicals and its goal is to enforces neurotypical semantics by forcing people to think in a specific way. The Fundamental Theorem of Algebra states that every polynomial equation of degree n with complex number coefficients has n roots, or solutions, in the complex numbers. So at a minimum, there is always least two ways to accomplish something.

There is nothing imaginary about our quaternion number system, complex numbers are as real as any other number.
