Not so much. Once upon a time, I was quite active on IRC - I was on an *extremely* high speed connection, and got multiple offers of all the "free" hardware and access I wanted in return for maintaining a node in their network. I imagine that's still the case nowadays.

I didn't know... Here, the only place I can get music is the classical station run by the University of Tulsa, just an announcer to give some background on the piece, and no ads. About every 6 months or so, I change the dial in my car to see what else is on. Just about every other station (top40 or otherwise) just plays ads the entire time, I rarely hear a song. And what's really funny is that, it's usually the same song that was playing the LAST time I did that, six months ago.

My nexus one gets 100% pure updates through T-mobile. If I'm impatient, I can run official builds directly from google. No missing features, no custom UI elements. I'll have tethering for free while everyone else pays, and any other feature Google releases that doesn't defy my hardware.

You joke...but I lost my virginity in a movie theater! (late 90s...good times...) But I lived in a (very) small town, lucky it had a theater at all. Might wanna bump up the percentage. I live in the US. After I got my N1, I wanted to add an extra to my account for my wife. The site simply wouldn't allow it unless I pay full price. I could subsidize ANY phone in the tmobile store to give her, but not that one. What's worse, customer support has *zero* power to correct the situation. (What was really interesting was, after I got mine, I went to buy another, and it was going to let me - but I decided to wait until her bday to do it. I guess they change their mind alot.) I wonder how many sales they actually refused because of an algorithm that decides who's money is green enough.

I agree 100%. Skype says they want their client everywhere, that makes the verizon deal is just 100% retarded. My wife spends no less than $400/yr with them calling home to Jamaica - they are the cheapest out there. I got her an android, and was a bit pissed/surprised there isn't a skype client on the market. But Fring.... my wife hates it, but uses it for lack of choice: sothanks for the heads-up on nimbuzz, I'll put her on it asap. I uninstalled f'n fring the moment I realized that it was actually resetting my privacy settings on skype every time I log in. (I normally have the "only folks on my contact list can message me" option turned on.) So my desktop kept getting the usual "wanna cyber?" spam bots and every time I went to options, my setting was reset. Fring support won't reply to questions about this at all. I suppose it interferes with their company objective: pissing everyone off.
