Attention SPECTRUM, your best bet would be a high quality App for iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and MAC. Take a hint from Disney and Amazon prime streaming. Amazon's premium streaming is now done on Apple TV, not the firestick or whatever it's called. Disney+ did not develop it's own hardware but has a good app that isn't annoying.

This unholy alliance will produce a bloated appliance that heat your house (like the cable box), track everything you watch then send it to the high command, pump you full of unskippable commercials, crash often with bizarre error codes, and frustrate the hell out of you with repeated logins.

It's going to be great, just ask Netflix how it worked out for them.

The copper is not twisted, suffers from crosstalk, and capacitance over long runs. Also, getting dry pairs in a city point-to-point is difficult.

For example, I can't drag stuff from the Windows 11 bar in the bottom middle to the desktop and make a shortcut. I can't drag shortcuts from the desktop to the windows 11 bar. What the heck are Apps? They can't be moved anywhere? And what about Windows 11 S mode? WTF? Who designed this thing. The first time you try to setup Windows 11 for grandma and can't drag Spider Solitaire to the desktop Grandma ain't gonna be happy.

Attention Microsoft. Put the windows start button back in the corner. If I can't drag shortcuts between the Windows 11 start bar and desktop you are doing it wrong.

The interface is an absolute mess and looks like it was developed by people working in a pandemic over zoom.

I have done exactly what you are suggesting (maxing out old machines) and guess what typically happens. Mostly and unnoticeable performance increase or the MOBO doesn't support it, or the BIOS upgrade you need bricks the MOBO. You can't take a 12th gen Intel chip and stick it 10th gen motherboard.

The issue for me is un-upgradable storage. What happens when the SSD dies or you need a bigger size on the M1 SoC?
It is game over at that point unless someone clever figures out how to repair and upgrade SoC SSDs.

I run all three: 1) Windows, 2) Linux (Ubuntu+Redhat), 3) MacOSX all on good hardware. My daily driver is now the M1 MacBookPro for these four reasons. 1) battery life, 2) gorgeous screen, 3) no fan noise, 4) the sound is amazing.

I have to agree with you. Video editing on the M1 is buttery smooth. Stuff that would choke my Intel desktop runs at full speed and with no stutter on the M1. (Using Adobe Premiere as M1 native app)

Which means you write endless papers and do arts and crafts projects. You "learn" about the Internet but never actually do anything that uses a computer.

In my opinion, if you want to roll out a real class get governors to commit to teaching Harvard CS50, Introduction to Computer Science, targeted for High School Students. Forget principles of computer science, forget Code.org, and get into a real class like Harvard CS50.
