LLMs cannot do it. Hallucination is baked-in.

LLMs alone definitely can't do it. LLMs, however, seem (to me, speaking for myself as an ML developer) to be a very likely component in an actual AI. Which, to be clear, is why I use "ML" instead of "AI", as we don't have AI yet. It's going to take other brainlike mechanisms to supervise the hugely flawed knowledge assembly that LLMs generate before we even have a chance to get there. Again, IMO.

I'd love for someone to prove me wrong. No sign of that, though. :)

I'll be impressed when one of these ML engines is sophisticated enough to be able to say "I don't know" instead of just making up nonsense by stacking probabilistic sequences; also it needs to be able tell fake news from real news. Although there's an entire swath of humans who can't do that, so it'll be a while I guess. That whole "reality has a liberal bias" truism ought to be a prime training area.

While I certainly understand that the Internet and its various social media cesspools are the most readily available training ground(s), it sure leans into the "artificial stupid" thing.

As long as other nations can purchase this, then NSA, CIA and our general intelligence community should be able to access that without a warrant.

They are NOT using AI to go after wealthy payers. They are using AI to figure out who to look which has a high probability to cheating the system. The fact that they are wealthy has NOTHING to do with it.

Secondly, adding "without consent" does not mean that it is a particular person's image, but could still require consent by someone else to create a totally fake one (which would be horrible, yet, governments do such BS).

It's a cool idea and they stand for a lot of great ideals, but laptops are incredibly hard to get right, drivers are hard to get right, and they are a small team trying to support a large number of possible configurations. Hardware gets more complicated by the year: forget the CPU and various GPUs, just look at how many other devices in a modern computer have a full-on processor, e.g. fancy touchbars, displays, even hard drives! Hell, your CPU probably has its own secondary general-purpose processors for things like security, and our CPUs themselves get firmware updates now to change how their instructions function. They are doing great work, but the deck is so stacked against them that it's not funny.

This is why I believe first manned mission to mars should require staying at least 10-16 years. Hate to say it, but canary in a coal mine. As to these samples, I would think that most microbes on mars are already here. Still I would prefer that extreme caution used and collect these earth or even lunar orbit, and test at iSS.

Offering up a competition to do this is not the way to go. Why? Because a JPL designed approach was already offered up and this is why we are looking at $8-11B to deliver in 15 years.

Need a prize approach in a set of objectives are listed and variable-level prize rewarded based on ranking. Get it done first, and you get $$$, with second getting $. Finally, upon successful return of Up to 1/2 of the samples, they get $ 3B/1B. Finally, limit this to 2-3 groups register for this.

With this approach, it will likely have SX and BO as entities, but it may also produce a 3rd group. This way, a great deal of infrastructure gets quickly developed and will be reused later for Martian/lunar/asteroids missions.

Technology "advances" to the point where a civilization has to expend 3.5 whatzits to acquire 1.0 whatzits, and it isn't even approximately sustainable.

Hopefully, no federal $ is going into this. Or perhaps federals SHOULD produce some $, but require that all of the cells be made in america, with american, if not western elements.
