The people over reacting were the ones leaving in droves with no proof of anything. If you read the resignation letters, most of the admins didn't even know why they were leaving.

The only 'personal' stake I have in freenode is that groups I belong to are now fractured, with a bunch of people leaving without knowing why and simply because others were leaving. It's bad for the communities and it's hard to trust Libera admins when they say they care about the communities but they're the ones causing the fracturing. And all because they 'lost' some theoretical control given by the ownership of a domain name. A DOMAIN NAME! Stupid drama that breaks up important communities.

This is the kind of childish behaviour exhibited by the people who insists everybody must jump ship 'because we say so, trust us! TM

I don't trust people who tell me what I need to do because they say it's the best thing to do without giving any concrete evidence besides 'because i say so'.

Seriously, the exact same childish language and behaviour exhibited in the chats and resignations from the admins is echoed in the spam, and they're the ones who benefit from the spam.

If people like you, with such a clear bias, are running Libera, it's not something I would want to be around.

The admins who left, a tiny fraction of all admins, may deny that they made this spam, but who else would use the EXACT SAME WORDING as the admins who left? It seems that these admins were profiting somehow from their positions and left to create something where they could be dictators again. I know it's slashdot, where people don't read the article. But I'm astounding by how many people who aren't on freenode are giving their opinion as if they had a clue.

After this, reactionary people started changing channel messages stating "we are moving to Libera, this place is closing".

So, the hostile 'takeover' from my perspective is Libera stealing Freenode users through spamming FUD and then freenode channel admins complaining when their channels are shut down when they were clearly advertising an alternate provider and saying they're shutting down their channel.

This seems like a grade school clique fight.
