Comment Re: EVs are for politicians... (Score 1) 158

Great news: you can get what you wished for. Current technology (pun!) most certainly does support adding 80 miles of range in 15 minutes.

Some models of Tesla can add 75 miles in 5 minutes. And they will have a max range of over 300 miles, not only 80.

https://www.tesla.com/blog/introducing-v3-supercharging

Just last weekend I needed a meal. I parked my car at a Supercharger, walked to a Five Guys, ate my meal, and walked back to my car. It had added over 100 miles in that short time. My car is an older one and doesn't charge as fast as the newer ones, but it's fast enough for me.

Agreed. The Copernican Principle should be applied: we are likely not in a special place nor time in the Universe. (Except for the fact many places are hostile to human life, killing the observer.)

But clickbait headline writers like to imply it, because telling people they are special makes them feel, well, special. Any belief system that tells you that YOU are special is likely full of shit.

Great news: someone lied to you... BEVs didn't need battery replacement every seven years.

As it happens, my daily driver is a seven year old BEV, a Tesla Model S. Its estimated range was 335 miles when new and is 315 miles now. Assuming we can trust the car's estimate (I, for one, do trust it) my car still has 94% battery capacity after seven years.

My car is far from worthless, but it's not for sale. I like it and I am keeping it.

Personally I'd like a plug-in hybrid (PIH), and hope those are perfected soon. It gives one more fuel options. For normal commuting I could plug in at night to charge and never have to visit a gas station, yet have gasoline as an option for longer trips or blackouts.

I expect more pandemics, civil wars, Yellowstone eruptions, petulant Presidents, and/or zombie apocalypses. PIH's are a better fit for chaos.
