IonOtter writes: From the Portland Bee: For seven years, members of “Mahr’s Metal Beavers”, the club’s brand name, were proud to say they were from Franklin High School. But now, going into their eighth year, the students and volunteer mentors find themselves physically locked out of the disused auto repair shop they once called home, in the bowels of the Inner Southeast high school. To make matters worse, school officials tried to claim the club money.

"We do our own fundraising, and have eleven club mentors, most of whom are professional engineers, working with us." said Rebecca LohKamp, the club's main mentor. "The last printout from the school I saw shows they are holding $7,500, funds dedicated to ‘Team 1432’,” LohKamp added. “Now they claim the money that we raised was given to the school, and might now belong to the school district."

Franklin High Business Manager, Steve Matthews, told The Bee that Franklin High is supporting the MESA program instead of the FIRST, and "can't do both". This is odd, because MESA, a supplier of military and law enforcement robots, doesn't offer any educational support on their website, while FIRST is specifically designed for educational institutions. c0lo writes: Nothing seems to be kept saint by Assange but the leaks: next to enter in his target — a bank. While a single bank (with an undisclosed name) is in the focus, Assange thinks it is about a more spread type of illness: “You could call it the ecosystem of corruption,” Assange said.
Starting form the same source, a 2-hours exclusive interview on Nov 11, reveals interesting things like: the expected leak in early 2011 is a "megaleak", the exponential growth of leaks received (for sure, a disappointment to many parties in this world wishing to scare the leakers) with 50% of the leaks coming/addressing private sector, an insight of the Assange's motivations and early life.

Happy reading, I found the details more interesting from the source than from wild speculations.

Read the linked article, they go into the details. "Unfortunately, Google did a poor job of clarifying the potential of Wave or helping users understand how to embrace and utilize it. The initial excitement gave way to confusion, followed by apathy, and eventually to Google deciding to kill the project--at least as far as Google hosting and supporting it is concerned."

MMacFadden writes "The Google Wave team has officially submitted the open source version of Wave to the Apache Software Foundation as a candidate Incubator project. Google hopes that the wave technology will continue to grow, supported by the new open source community (which is made up of Google and non-Google employees alike). Here is the proposal itself."

Rootkit In a Network Card Demonstrated 112

KindMind notes coverage in The Register on a researcher who has developed a firmware-based rootkit that resides in a network card. Here is the developer's blog entry. "Guillaume Delugré, a reverse engineer at French security firm Sogeti ESEC, was able to develop proof-of-concept code after studying the firmware from Broadcom Ethernet NetExtreme PCI Ethernet cards... Using the knowledge gained from this process, Delugré was able to develop custom firmware code and flash the device so that his proof-of-concept code ran on the CPU of the network card."
