Submission + - [XDA MISSION] Let's get some Exynos sources! (xda-developers.com)

BatGnat writes: As you probably know the Galaxy SIII contains the Exynos CPU, which Samsung dosen't provide any documentations of. What they release is kernel source, and a few parts of the platform source that aren't actually modified or really critical. In short, everything in the Platform tarball is stuff that is already in AOSP, and the AOSP version works fine. So what we what is to convince Samsung to release the documentation and sources for the Exynos chip that the developers need.

Our "plan" is to flood Samsung's Facebook pages to get their attention on this topic. Below you have two statements, pick one and post it on Samsung's FB pages (There's a list of them below the statements).

Submission + - Mountain Dew "Dub the Dew" promo pulled due to hacking and internet shenanigans (time.com)

rullywowr writes: Time reports that Mountain Dew's latest promotional stunt to name the new granny apple flavored drink was shut down due to hackers and people suggesting obscene names. Some of the top-voted names by users were the likes of “Hitler did nothing wrong,” “Diabeetus,” and “Gushing Granny" to name a few. In addition, the article mentions the site was hacked with an unwanted banner which said, “Mtn Dew salutes the Israeli Mossad for demolishing 3 towers on 9/11!” as well as some "unwanted RickRolling." The real question is if the security measures not implemented completely or perhaps the masterminds behind the promotion were just unprepared for the brutality of uncensored internet?

Submission + - Ecuador grants Assange political asylum (rt.com) 3

NSN A392-99-964-5927 writes: Ecuador has granted political asylum to WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, who requested it after the British Supreme Court refused to reopen his appeal against extradition to Sweden where he is wanted for questioning over alleged sex crimes.

Ecuador took a long time to assess the request, but finally announced that asylum had been granted on August 14th.

WikiLeaks founder has been holed up in the country’s London embassy since June 19.

The asylum guarantees him safe passage from the UK to Ecuador, says Professor Donald Rothwell from the Australian National University College of Law.

Microsoft Wins WordPerfect Antitrust Battle With Novell 124

New submitter Psychotic_Wrath writes "After a long, drawn-out legal battle and a hung jury, a federal judge has dismissed Novell's antitrust case against Microsoft. The case involved allegations from Novell that Microsoft removed code from its Windows 95 operating system which created the need for further development to WordPerfect. Novell says this delayed the release of their product, giving Microsoft Word an unfair advantage. Groklaw has a detailed write-up on the decision."
