Those prices can be insane, although I do wonder how many people actually pay the full price for those premium fares, as opposed to upgrading through frequent flyer miles or similar systems. Also, I seem to remember from the days when I did LON-IAH several times a year that BA had an option below Club class, something like "World Traveller" - a hundred pound premium for some extra legroom, a better seat and better food. Nothing like the extra luxury of the wallet-destroying classes, but a significant improvement from what I saw. (Not that I ever flew in it: I tended to avoid BA because EDI/GLA-LON-IAH was much less pleasant for me than GLA-ORD-IAH. Almost anything beats CDG, of course!)

Journal Journal: [Z80] Further mullings over

I got a larger breadboard in the mail today for prototyping my home-made computer. As well as a couple of extra ICs I'll need (74HCT125 for controlling the bus for chips that don't have tristate outputs, and some binary counters which I'll use to improvise a DMA scheme for initially loading a static RAM via RS232)

But other than that, I've been mulling further.

Submission + - New chip converts heat to electricity

Dster76 writes: A startup, Eneco, has invented a "'solid state energy conversion/generation chip' that will convert heat directly into electricity or alternatively refrigerate down to -200 degrees celsius when electricity is applied". The company also claims to have high profile manufacturers interested in applying their technology to computer manufacturing:

"The company says it is already in talks with both Dell and Apple about how the chips could be used in their devices. Initial talks have focused on integrating the heat conversion chips into the device so it can harness the heat generated by processors and turn it into electricity to power fans or other cooling technologies. By harnessing this power the devices, be they initially laptops and handhelds, or later even servers and PCs, should see improved energy efficiency, extended battery life and enhanced performance."

Is such a device really possible? Could it revolutionize computer design?
