Submission + - Bradley Manning spoke in court, like a man crushed by the state (muktworld.com)

sfcrazy writes: Bradley Manning has spoken today in the court before his defense closed. He did not speak like a hero who wanted to expose the wrong doings. He did not speak like a hero who was willing to pay a heavy price for justice, ethics, morality and humanity.

Manning spoke like a man whose spirit was crushed by the state after years and years of solitary confinement which many would say was nothing short of torture.

Submission + - Vastly improved Raspberry Pi performance with Wayland

There are no limits to what a DIY-er kan buy in China. And with SDR (software defined radio) and open source GSM software, it takes relatively little effort to build one yourself. There's even a small GSM router (20-30 euros on evilbay) that's very popular for that sort of projects. It holds the GSM modem and Wifi, so you can easily control it from a laptop.

It is a real ex-NATO bunker supposed to survive a nuclear attack. Cutting off communications would need intervention from several suppliers. The lines are buried very deep and protected. And cutting off power would be utterly useless. There are diesel generators and a supply of diesel that could last for months. And all the rest: air and water purification systems etc.

A Truckload of OAuth Issues That Would Make Any Author Quit 86

New submitter DeFender1031 writes "Several months ago, when Eran Hammer ragequit the OAuth project, many people thought he was simply being overly dramatic, given that he gave only vague indications of what went wrong. Since then, and despite that, many companies have been switching to OAuth, citing it as a 'superior form of secure authentication.' But a fresh and objective look at the protocol highlights the significant design flaws in the system and sheds some light on what might have led to its creator's departure."

Submission + - Skype Halts Password Resets as Massive Security Hole Discovered (ibtimes.co.uk)

An anonymous reader writes: A massive security hole has been found in Microsoft's Skype application, where it is possible to gain access to a user's account by knowing nothing more than their email address.

It is then possible to gain access to the target's account, change their password and associated email address, and lock them out for good, as any password reset requests by them will be sent to the new email address, not theirs.

UPDATE: Skype has since shut down its password reset tool while it investigates the issue. The company told IBTimes UK: "We have had reports of a new security vulnerability issue.
