I think the idea with the metamaterials is that it would cancel out the waves passively.
I think we're ok with triggering a worse situation somewhere else. That's what we do best.
Well, someone would have to just bang them too! Not the worst pattern to create.
And 15 deaths is so trivial as to be ridiculous. Hell, we even have more measles deaths than that (60 on average, in years we don't have a massive outbreak like this year)....
Yes, it's all well and good, but I don't see how you're going to help those with measles by installing backup cameras.
Anyways, probably won't cost more than $20 to implement by 2018.
A lot of the world's problems could be solved by banning busybodies.
Read "by banging" busybodies...and though, eh, that could work.
An estimated 13 to 15 deaths and 1,125 injuries may be prevented with the implementation of this new requirement."
This read like sarcasm to me. Then I realized they were serious. I'm all for backup cameras. I've had my share of fender benders, but it seems like there are far better ways to spend money to improve car safety than this.
you know this shit has been comercially available for less than 200$ for over 2 decades right?
wtf? 20 yrs ago $200 would by you:
4MB of RAM 20. Note MB not GB
or
a 200MB HD
at least someone's confused.
At Comdex circa 1994, I played a 3D free roam space fighter game with a head tracking virtual reality headset...not so different than what I see with Oculus rift.
I guess cost is an issue. That setup was around $1,500 I think. Most people didn't know what the internet was, and fast internet speeds were 0.05Mb/s.
Oculus rift is targeting $300. Still...you'd think that 20 yrs would produce more breakthroughs.
funny how they talk about this as if it's something special and luxurious.
seems like your average student or blue collar worker has something like this in their driveway.
It's never had anything to do with intelligence...autistic people have often been highly intelligent.
And more so, for many, unable to care for themselves, unable to eat, to prepare food, secure food, handle finances, basic communication etc.
The awkward and unsociable ones you mention are just the very high performers.
I would like a switch to kill the person who steals the phone. i support this kill switch idea. explosive charge through the ear?
didn't know there were so many muslims on slashdot...maybe it's read in London or Sweden more than I realized?
in any case, everyone knows this is the truth, it's not racist or bigoted to speak the truth.
plus people get DVDs for travel so they can watch them on their laptops, in their car, or at their rented cabin without need for internet/wifi/LTE. there's also something about the certainty that you can play it without concern for errors in streaming, bandwidth up and downs, etc.
Dinosaurs aren't extinct. They've just learned to hide in the trees.
