Submission + - Apple has won the war. Time for Apple to stop doing these five things stupidly. (beatweek.com)

billpalmer writes: "The war is over and Apple has won. Someone needs to tell Apple that. Now that Apple has won the war Steve Jobs started, he’s not around to tell them what to do next. If he were, I imagine his message would be straightforward: “Start acting like you’ve won. Let go of the trench warfare mentality. Stop trying to do in 2012 what I was trying to do in 1997, or even in 2009.”"

Submission + - Why the iPhone 5 has prompted my divorce from AT&T (beatweek.com)

billpalmer writes: "I’m getting a divorce. I’ve been married to AT&T since 2004, but this year it stopped holding up its end of the deal. It’s been promising to fix the network forever but it never gets up off the couch. And the restrictions it’s now trying to place on my data usage are almost abusive. If I have to pay an early termination fee as part of the divorce settlement, so be it. I’ll soon be getting hitched with Verizon, and while I don’t expect it to be bliss, I’m hoping it’ll be tolerable. And the wedding gift of an iPhone 5 on a true LTE network will be nice. In any case the marriage to Verizon is only required to last two years..."

Submission + - Nokia 920 phone copycats design from new iPod nano, iPod touch (beatweek.com) 1

billpalmer writes: "Now we know why Nokia and Microsoft hurried up and held an “unveiling” event for the new Lumia 920 Windows Phone last week, months before the product will be ready to ship. Yesterday Apple introduced the new iPod nano, whose front facing body design looks suspiciously similar to the 920, as well as a new color lineup for the iPod touch which very closely matches up with the new Lumia color lineup. Knee jerk reaction by the Apple haters who write most of the tech headlines accused Apple of stealing from Nokia. But a look at the facts demonstrates the opposite, and may lead to legal action"

Submission + - The real truth about Barack Obama's first four years (beatweek.com)

billpalmer writes: "According to the conservative Wall Street Journal, Obama has the lowest spending rate of any president since Eisenhower. The story about Obama running up the national debt is a kindergarten level lie, long ago debunked. Consumer spending and corporate profits are at their highest in years. Translation: the economy is growing..."

Submission + - First images of new iPhone 5 emerge (and it comes in red!) (beatweek.com)

billpalmer writes: "Apple is expected to formally introduce the new iPhone 5 in the next ten days, with a retail launch before the month is over. But we’ve acquired exclusive images of the upcoming iPhone – and there are some surprising changes. It’s far more curvaceous than the previous boxy iPhone 4S model, its charging cable appears to be made of rope, and it comes in red..."

Submission + - Attorney General begins tax evasion case against Mitt Romney's Bain Capital (beatweek.com)

billpalmer writes: "Bain Capital, the investment firm which Mitt Romney founded and still has intimate ties to despite retroactively “retiring” from it in 1999, is under investigation for tax evasion. The Attorney General of New York has launched an inquiry into the accounting practices at Bain, which has been allegedly misclassifying client fees as investments for the sake of paying a lower tax rate on them"

Submission + - Confirmed: iPhone 5 release date this month, iPad mini in October (beatweek.com)

billpalmer writes: "The iPhone 5 will see its release date in September while the iPad mini will be given a separate press event of its own in October. It was always the logical course of action for Apple, and now Walt Mossberg of the Wall Street Journal has confirmed it. Apple has traditionally held a single press event in early September to debut its latest round of iDevices..."

Submission + - Steve Jobs wins: Apple, Google meet to negotiate terms of Android surrender (beatweek.com) 1

billpalmer writes: "Days after U.S. federal courts handed Apple a landmark win in its patent case against leading Android vendor Samsung and set legal precedent for Apple to score similar victories against other Android vendors including Google itself, Apple and Google are reportedly meeting today to discuss the matter. While some outlets are diplomatically referring to the meeting as “talks,” the more accurate description would be terms of surrender"

Submission + - Miami Dolphins team plane collides with another plane while leaving Dallas (beatweek.com)

billpalmer writes: "August hasn’t been the best of months for the Miami Dolphins who lost all four of their preseason games while saying goodbye to their best receiver and best cornerback. But things took a turn for the absurd, and the scary, as the team was leaving Dallas after yet another preseason loss as the team plane inadvertently collided with another airplane while on the runway..."

Submission + - iPhone rising: amid Samsung ban, 50% increase in Android phones being dumped (beatweek.com)

billpalmer writes: "Now that U.S. federal court has ruled that Samsung’s Android phones are illegal knockoffs of the iPhone and will be banned from the market as of December, the fallout is coming fast and furious. While technology geeks appear to be clinging to their Android devices more tightly than ever (and calling for a boycott on Apple products no less), mainstream consumers are doing just the opposite. Gazelle, a service where users can resell their used electronics devices, has seen a fifty percent spike in Samsung Android products since the court ruling. That means consumers are fleeing Android in spades"

Submission + - AT&T's top five sins this year: why you should abandon ship (beatweek.com)

billpalmer writes: "AT&T has never exactly been beloved by its own customers or by consumers in general during its history as a wireless carrier (yes, we know there was a previous landline company called AT&T which bears little relation). But in 2012, AT&T has gone off the deep end with moves which suggest that it’s either so sure its customers will never leave due to contract and upgrade-eligibility lock-in that they’ll never be able to leave no matter how bad things get, or the carrier has reached a point of melancholy where it just doesn’t care anymore. Here’s a list of the top five sins AT&T has committed against its customers and against the industry since the year started"

Submission + - iPhone 5 to T-Mobile and MetroPCS in September (beatweek.com)

billpalmer writes: "The iPhone 5 will land on second tier U.S. carriers T-Mobile and MetroPCS when it launches in September, according to a report which says both T-Mobile and MetroPCS are quietly offering unlimited data plans in an attempt to woo iPhone users from larger current iPhone carriers..."

Submission + - Droid Razr HD details and images surface online (tapformobile.com)

billpalmer writes: "Footage claiming to be of the upcoming Motorola Droid Razr HD surfaced on YouTube this morning, but only briefly before it was yanked, suggesting that the footage was posted by the company in error two weeks ahead of the September 5th press event during which it’s widely expected to unveil the device..."
