There are reports that those users can't log in.

Submission + - An Example of a Very Sad Google Account Recovery Failure and Its Effects (vortex.com) 1

Lauren Weinstein writes: All, I am doing something in this post that I’ve never done before over these many years. I’m going to share with you an example of what Google account recovery failure means to the people involved, and this is by no means the worst such case I’ve seen — not even close, unfortunately.

Submission + - SPAM: Build a Dyson Sphere Around the Sun Would Be Easy. Use Jupiter for Raw Materials

schwit1 writes: Not everybody agrees that constructing a Dyson sphere would end up being such a huge undertaking. In an interview with Green, astrophysicist Jason Wright compared such an effort to Manhattan, a human and interconnected “megastructure,” which was constructed over a long period of time, bit by bit.

“It was planned to some degree, but no one was ever like, ‘Hey, let’s build a huge city here,'” Wright told Green. “It’s just every generation made it a little bigger.”

In the same way, a Dyson sphere or swarm of satellites could be constructed over time to harness all of a star’s energy, he argued.

Submission + - SPAM: Confronting Your Fears in Virtual Reality Therapy

SunTzuWarmaster writes: Hospital and university clinics have historically helped people post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and phobias using virtual reality to immerse them in simulations that help them reckon with the problem. It was the foundation of a US Army program called BraveMind ( [spam URL stripped]... [usc.edu] ). It is a virtual version of the longstanding technique called exposure therapy, in which people confront memories or fears, such as fear of flying or confined spaces — done actively with a therapist. However, a limited number of virtual-reality scenarios are available, and many patients must go to a specialized clinic for such care. Last week in the Wall Street Journal, they covered that researchers are aiming to make immersive VR-based therapy more personal and bring it into people’s homes.

Submission + - U.S. management of nuclear power 2

Futurepower(R) writes: This book is about extremely poor U.S. management of nuclear power:
Atomic Days: The Untold Story of the Most Toxic Place in America.

The book tells the history of the Hanford Nuclear power plant. Quoting:

"Once home to the United States's largest plutonium production site, the Hanford Nuclear Reservation in Washington state is laced with 56 million gallons of radioactive waste. The threat of an explosive accident at Hanford is all too real--an event that could be more catastrophic than Chernobyl."

Submission + - SPAM: DNS outages in Germany

rastos1 writes: Twitter is being flooded with reports of DNS outages in Germany, Austria and some other European countries. Many users are reporting “.de” domains not resolving and that several root servers are failing.

Update 9:24AM EST: The issue seems to be limited to .de domain names due to an outage of .de zone TLD servers. The problem appears to be in a configuration or database issue as some domains are working and some are not. For example, as of now, facebook.de works but ford.de fails.
