Journal Journal: Winamp and anonymous proxies
Recently I got fed up from my modem and got an ADSL connection. Funny that it's cheaper than flat-rate modem connection for now.
The most important thing that broadband enabled me is all those net-radio stations. Previously, even the low bitrate radio stations didn't stream well with my slow connection, but now I can listen to anything!
I prefer using Winamp since "its" stations often have higher bitrates than those who use Windows Media Player (which got a sucky interface anyway) But, it's not perfect. My ISP uses a stupid webcache proxy on port 80 which corrupts the stream and makes it skip for some reason, and there are several nice stations which broadcast only on port 80. So what's the solution? To connect through an anonymous proxy!
I wonder if it's okay to hog up the bandwith of the misconfigured proxies like that.. oh well, their problem I guess.
Update: Seems that it's hard to find proxies which are fast enough to stream radio stations. The first proxy I used worked perfectly, but it got closed after one hour of usage..
