Filezilla has become the 4th most popular source forge top download, edging out 5th place PortableApps.com: Portable Software/USB. This, of course, raises (not begs, thank you) the question: Why the fuck is there a "sourceforge top downloads" box on the front page and why can't it be disabled?

Jason Perlow of ZDNet is reporting that Adobe will stop developing Flash for mobile browsers and focus on AIR and HTML5 tools. I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if 750 voices screamed out in terror and were laid off. But that noise was overshadowed by everybody else celebrating.

I just heard some sad news on cbsnews.com — cranky old guy Andy Rooney was found dead in his New York City hospital bed last night. There weren't any more details. I'm sure everyone in the Slashdot community will miss him — even if you didn't ignore his work, there is no denying he was on a tv show you didn't watch. Truly an American icon.

9 days after Apple's disappointing 4th quarter results (must be a bug in iCal!), now we know why: Motorola just announced their third quarter results. TL;DR version: almost 5 million android phones and almost 100,000 xoom tablets. No wonder iPhone and iPad sales were weaker than expected!

It's no secret that rock stars have riders — provisions on their contractual appearances that require a bowl of brown-free m&ms or specify the exact brand of bottled water, cocaine purity, etc. Well, Richard Stallman has his own list of provisions. Nothing about toe jam, oddly enough.
I can't wait to see Eric Raymond's rider!

Yahoo news is reporting (via AP) that Google is in talks to help finance a Yahoo purchase. Interesting rumor. Perhaps they want to have a say in who the new yahoo overlords are (or are not, as the case may be).

I just read the news on slashdot — slashdot is powered by your submissions. There were no further details, but speculation on digg is rampant.

Due to copyright restrictions on the firefox logo, Debian's build has used a different logo. Now the Mozilla foundation is insisting that they use a different name as well. Is this the compromisation ESR wants? Does anybody else really care which logo (or name) the browser formerly known as firefox/firebird/phoenix uses?

I just heard the news on slashdot — slashdot needs your input for a survey pertaining to the redesign and other suggested changes. This is your chance to tell slashdot to fire Zonk (or whatever other interface changes you think would be good). Personally, I think it's time for some pony action!

Slashdot reader Larry Bagina reports that an article he submitted was rejected earlier today. "It was about google and linux, I thought maybe they'd accept. I guess people would rather read another story about the PS3." CmdrTaco, when reached via IRC, responded, "we get lke a bazillion submissons aday. dael with it." The story is expected to be approved in 2 days, after it has been dugg.

According to various sources, Google is testing OpenSolaris. Is this just a Sun PR campaign, or are they considering replacing their low-cost commodity linux servers? Solaris experience doesn't seem too important for Google jobs.
