Well All foreign political names are if taken out of context. Lets look at Democrats and Republicans. In Sweden they just sound silly. Democrats, is OK but meaningless. All political parties are supposed to be "democratic". Its like calling a party "The Political". Republican, refers mainly to a person who wants to kill people with a guillotine in the public square. Robespierre and gang.

A device able to give anyone a rather unpleasant chock but not much more.) Well, sad Volta, I relay don't know but sometime you might be able to tax it.

Submission + - Is Microsoft the new GM? (nytimes.com) 2

Strudelkugel writes: Dick Brass, a former VP of Microsoft, wonders if the company has a future, given the lack of innovation compared to Apple, Google, Amazon and other competitors: AS they marvel at Apple’s new iPad tablet computer, the technorati seem to be focusing on where this leaves Amazon’s popular e-book business. But the much more important question is why Microsoft, America’s most famous and prosperous technology company, no longer brings us the future, whether it’s tablet computers like the iPad, e-books like Amazon’s Kindle, smartphones like the BlackBerry and iPhone, search engines like Google, digital music systems like iPod and iTunes or popular Web services like Facebook and Twitter.

Submission + - "Puddles" of Water Sighted on Mars (newscientist.com)

eldavojohn writes: "Further reinforcing the theory of a wet Mars, NewScientist is reporting on what appear to be water puddles in newly taken images from the Mars rover. While these results are controversial, the assumption for these blue 'puddles' to be water rely on engineers measuring the uniform smoothness of the surface of them & also in their analysis of apparent opaqueness whereby in some areas they claim to see pebbles underneath the surface of the blue areas. Truly water resisting the temptation to evaporate off the face of Mars or merely an anomaly of stereophotography gone wrong? We'll have to wait and see as the "Face on Mars" has taught us not to trust your eyes when viewing the red planet."

Submission + - BBC upgrade to Vista - Sort of!

SimonF writes: "Tim Weber from the BBC upgrades to Vista and doesn't enjoy the experience overmuch.

My favorite bit is from TFA "Now here is the dirty little secret of all the expensive PC helpers out there. Upgrading hardware is really easy. As long as you make sure the new hardware fits into the slots that come with your computer and does not overburden its power supply, it's usually just a case of carefully lifting out the old and slotting in the new piece of kit."

This is from the guy who has days of misery upgrading to Vista that any "expensive PC helper" would have steered him clear of.

Man down the pub computers is alive and kicking!"
