Comment OMG (Score 5, Funny) 258

It was Bill Gates.

Think about it: They needed to cover it up, so he was made (against his will) to shave his beard and start wearing suits.

Gates vowed revenge for this, and what better way than to take over the world with computers and make the Curiosity rover run off a modified version of Windows Vista.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sega_megadrive

This redirects to Sega Genesis, even though it was only known as this in North America.

However, a vote took place on what to call it and as a result of this vote, it's referred to as the Genesis, which is wrong.

It crap like this that makes me wonder what other facts have been altered.

Comment Superb coverage (Score 2) 373

I'm really impressed with the amount of events that you can watch on the BBC's website. I initially thought it would just be a couple of events here and there, such as, you can either watch the badminton or the hockey.

Nope, you can choose from a massive range, so much so that I keep chopping and changing just to make sure I catch a bit of everything.

Except for the women's weightlifting. That's just scary.

Comment Better spam filtering? (Score 3, Interesting) 368

Hotmail's spam filtering is without a doubt the worst on the web. Obvious spam ends up in my Inbox, and legitimate mail ends up in the spam.

What's worse though is when it gets fooled into thinking that the email is part of a mailing list I've subscribed to and displays all the images automatically, making the spammer aware that my email address is valid.

Comment Tweets were directed at Daley (Score 1) 639

I think the biggest problem was that the tweets were directed at Daley, rather than just being written on the teenager's feed.

Daley was clearly upset about it which is why he re-tweeted the comment which was then re-tweeted by his followers (including several celebrities).

Frankly I was very disgusted when I read what the teenager had written. Losing your father when you're only 18 sucks enough without some twat goading you over it.

Submission + - Teenager arrested in England for criticising Olympic athlete on Twitter (guardian.co.uk) 14

An anonymous reader writes: A teenager from Dorset, England was arrested for sending a Twitter message to Olympic athlete Tom Daley saying: "You let your dad down i hope you know that." Police arrested the 17 year old boy as part of an investigation into "malicious tweets" after Daley and his team mate missed out on a medal. Daley's father died from cancer last year.

While it is rarely used and the police have not indicated whether they are pressing charges, the Communications Act 2003 s.127 covers the sending of improper messages. Section 127(1)(a) relates to a message that is grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character. Shaun duffy was convicted and sentenced earlier this year under Scots law.

I look forward to tens of thousands of arrests across England over the next few days as all public remarks which may cause offence, regardless of their target, are investigated by the law.

I agree with this completely. No matter how little you charge for something, some people will always pirate it. Hell, even if you give it away for free they'll still pirate it (if that makes sense).

What the MIAA needs to understand is that I want to be able to watch Game of Thrones at the same time as the US, without having to subscribe to 3 sports channels and 8 movie channels and I want to be able to download it from NetFlix, PSN, Love Film, Xbox etc.

I'm happy to rent the episode (as in, it expires after 24 hours), as long as it's reasonably priced (e.g. 1GBP for the SD version, 2GBP for the HD version.

They should just try it one day with something fairly popular just to see what happens.

I used to be a die hard Amiga fan and I still dip into the scene every now and again to see what's going on.

They seem to have a fairly decent browser in the form of a Firefox port called Timberwolf, but it's quite sad to see the amount of effort they have to through just to watch a video on YouTube.

Likewise, USB support is still quite lacking (I'm not even sure they have USB2 support yet), and most of the software is just ports of Linux software (Blender etc.)

It's interesting to see what's going on, but it'll only ever be a hobby. Some of them still seem to think the Amiga will take over the world one day.
