Feed George Foreman busts out the iGrill... for reals (engadget.com)

The clever folks at ThinkGeek may have been him to the punch with their April Fool's Day edition iGrill, but it seems that George Foreman isn't one to let a good brand go unused, trotting out his own iGrill that's very much real. Unlike ThinkGeek's USB-powered faux device, George Foreman's iGrill is a full-fledged indoor/outdoor BBQ, with a 200 square inch nonstick grilling surface and an adjustable temperature control probe. Garnering it the "i" designation is the BBQ's integrated 10W speaker system and USB port/dock, which will accommodate your iPod or other MP3 player to let you pump out some tunes as you grill. If that sounds like your idea of an "instant party," you can get your iGrill now for $150.

[Thanks, Galley]

Submission + - Sourceforge Changes Hands

eldavojohn writes: "Our beloved Sourceforge has been traded to CollabNet from VA Software (whose Open Source Technology Group (OSTG) operates Slashdot) for an equity stake in Collabnet. Since college, I've used Sourceforge hundreds if not thousands of times to access open source projects or even retrieve precompiled binaries. Either way, it's made my life easier and I hope it remains a free valuable resource."

Submission + - 2.6sq/km hotspot opens in London

Liam Cromar writes: "The Cloud has opened a ubiquitous wireless mesh network in the City of London. Internet access is available for a reasonable £12/month, or £4.50/hour. A larger network to cover more of London is also planned by The Cloud. No word on connection speeds is provided in the article, however. Still, it will be interesting to see what sort of uptake there is — do people really want ubiquitous Internet?"

Submission + - Is Anti-Virus software dead?

An anonymous reader writes: After stumbling over several unanimous recommendations against using viral scans for your email (which somewhat shattered my security world view), I started to notice a bigger and bigger movement which argues against the use of anti-virus software altogether, as it is ineffective against the main threats of malware, counter-productive (as it eats up system resources), and seems to be more of a "good-luck charm" than anything else.

I have to admit that, even though I deal with loads of suspicious software, I can't even remember when I got the last real virus warning.

So — is it time to dump your anti-virus software, go "commando", and free yourself from the shackles of these system drags?

From the article, "The pledge by Norway, which is not a member of the European Union, outshines the EU's proposed plan to cut its emissions by at least 20 percent during the same period." Mr. President, we must not allow a reduced emissions gap!"

jacksonwest writes: "With New Orleans children working in the background, John Edwards vlogged his presidential campaign announcement and posted it on YouTube. He personally urged people to text message "Hope" to a campaign number for instructions on how to "do something today." Tom Vilsack recently became the first presidential campaign vlogger. A new era of manufacturing personality, or a sincere appeal to the average online denizen?"

Submission + - Hasty Conclusions: The Fate of the PS3 and Wii

thegamebiz writes: Amped News has written an interesting article reflecting on the launch of the PS3 and Wii and the ensuing aftermath. Most people are proclaiming the imminent death of the PS3 and hailing the Wii as Nintendo's second coming, but can lessons from the past be learned and what role does perspective play? "We can talk until our faces turn blue about the steep price of the PlayStation 3, but that didn't stop people from lining up for days to buy the console or pay way above sticker price for it on eBay...and [we can] cite developer reactions to the difficulty of developing for the PlayStation 3 hardware. In the end, however, Sony still has the definitive brand in gaming and to the average mainstream consumer that's all that really matters. As game journalists like the staff here at Amped News and enthusiasts like the vast majority of our readers, we know the ins and outs of the industry. We can drop the names of various movers, shakers, and corporate executives. We can discuss intelligently the inner workings of various companies, but it doesn't stop Madden from becoming the highest selling piece of software on the market every summer. We have to realize that we are, as are most enthusiasts in any medium, a minority in the mass media consumer culture in which we live."

Submission + - Top Ten Apple Rumors of all time

An anonymous reader writes: CNET have taken a look back at 30 years of Apple rumors during which we have witnessed Apple's "rise, fall, and rise again, like a kind of technological Jesus Christ". Some of the rumors are outrageous, and some came true. The list includes such treasures as the Apple-Nintendo merger, which the article calls "utterly outlandish" and the persistent rumor that Apple will release OSX for PC — described as "so counter-productive and financially damaging for Apple that we doubt the company has ever seriously considered it". There is also mention of the iPhone which CNET says is "an elaborate hoax dreamed up by Steve Jobs to keep journalists busy".
