Submission + - IBM Sees Growing Enterprise Demand for Windows Phone (redmondmag.com)

Strudelkugel writes: "Actual end user momentum is trailing business interest," Szafranski said. "IT likes Microsoft and likes Windows. They've made a lot of investment in things like Active Directory and Exchange and as a result they have a lot of interest in seeing Windows Phone used by employees. I don't think anyone is going to be all Windows on mobile, but enterprises do want it and I think they have a strong opportunity when it comes to the enterprise side of purchase decisions."

Submission + - How Tutankhamun's DNA became a battleground (medium.com)

superboj writes: Everyone wants a piece of Egypt's most famous pharaoh, including the media, the Muslim Brotherhood and even the Mormon church. But while scientists have been trying to excavate his DNA and prove who he was—Egypt's turbulent politics have been making progress hard. Will experts be able to make a major discovery? And what happens if they do?

Exactly. Those arguing above about GIMP vs Krita are arguing Illustrator vs Photoshop. Just as Adobe releases a full sweet of products with a lot of overlap there is going to be overlap between Krita and GIMP. They are still each useful in their own ways. A digital artist often uses multiple programs to handle different tasks.

Submission + - Merlin's Magic: The Inside Story of the First, Best Mobile Game

curtwoodward writes: Long before Steve Jobs kicked off the modern mobile gaming revolution with the iPhone, a Harvard astrophysicist got kids obsessed with chasing electronic lights and sounds with their fingers. Bob Doyle was the inventor behind Merlin, and built the early versions with his wife and brother-in-law. As the more sophisticated cousin of raw memory game Simon, Merlin offered games like blackjack, tic-tac-toe, and even an early music program. Doyle, now 77, got 5 percent royalties on each sale, money that paid for the rest of his projects over the years.

Submission + - A New State of Matter Has Been Discovered (gizmocrazed.com)

Diggester writes: The days when solid, liquid and gas were the only three states of matter were over when newer states such as plasma and superficial fluid were discovered. It seems like science students will be updating their course notes in the near future, thanks to the discovery of a yet another state of matter. Say hello to Dropleton which comes across as a new sort of puny particle that may possess the postulates of the liquid state of matter.

Submission + - Indian space agency prototypes its first crew capsule (electronicsweekly.com)

sixsigma1978 writes: India is about to take one small step towards human space flight. Last week the country’s space agency unveiled a prototype of its first crew capsule, a 4-metre-high module designed to carry two people into low Earth orbit.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is planning a test flight for later this year – even though it still awaits government approval and funding for a human space-flight programme. The unpiloted capsule will fly on the maiden launch of a new type of rocket that would otherwise have carried a dummy payload.

Submission + - Approximately 19% of Macs Open to Malware (bgr.com)

sqorbit writes: It seems Mac OS end of line is effecting some Mac's just as XP end of life is predicted for PC users. Apple's two latest updates have not been released for Snow Leopard. The article brings up a good questions. Why hasn't Apple done more to make users aware of product support cycles? It also is important to note that users can upgrade for free.

Comment Ban it as a first option.. (Score 2) 240

Can someone please explain to me why a ban is the first option for some lawmakers who don't understand a certain advancement, technology or social issue. State governments seem to use the "ban it first, ask questions later" philosophy on anything they don't fully comprehend. If this keeps up we will soon start banning theoretical physics.

Submission + - Secondary Thyroid Cancer Kills More Than Primary, Study Says (gizmocrazed.com)

Diggester writes: If you thought primary thyroid cancer was deadlier than secondary thyroid cancer, think again. It might sound like it, but the latest study shows that the latter can prove much more lethal especially in case of adolescents. Published in a journal by the name CANCER, the study reports that adolescents and young adults with secondary thyroid cancer have 6 times more chances of death than those who suffer from primary thyroid cancer. What makes this even remotely possible and what measures must be taken to avoid such occurrences?
