$10,000 isn't close to enough to be saving for later life. You only (typically) get about 35 years of working life, and most of us will get around 30-35 years as a pensioner. That means that you're currently setting yourself up to be living on $10,000 a year (assuming investment keeps up with inflation).

You must be European. Retirement age in the US ~67, no way 'most of us' are making it to late 90's.

I have two grease fittings on my car (added while my brother owned it). It's funny to point them out at the quick lube places. Really throws off their rhythm. (Usually do my own work on the car, but I've been without workspace for a while.)

Not sure how you would count it, but I'm on at least career number three, maybe as high as five.

The worst pissing contest at my workplace has a woman as one of the participants. She's retired army, so she's probably somewhat atypical.

People do go to jail for missing payments on child support. Even if they lost their job and cannot make said payments.

Just to clarify, I was referring to alimony rather than child support.

But yes, I've seen men carted off for jail when unemployment was at its peak a few years ago and they couldn't pay.
