I feel angry at them, however a whole lot less angry than at the U.S. government because there is a chance the New Zealand government had a reason to do this. However, a good portion of that is bias against the U.S. due to recent actions like threatening to block trade from countries that don't do as they say, and war against a country that has "weapons of mass destruction" when the U.S. not only has the most WMDs in the world, but is also the only one has not had the responsibility to not use them on anyone. I can see any world leader that has the U.S. breathing down their necks for something would comply for fear of becoming the next U.S. "big threat".

I am absolutely pissed that the U.S. government has the audacity to do something like this. I am not a cracker, nor am I going to take any action that is illegal in my country. However, I do plan on taking action, and I encourage you all to do the same. Call your MP or whoever the government official is in your area, pester the hell out of them with your worries and complaints. Do the same to whoever is in charge of foreign affairs through the appropriate channels. This cannot continue.

Right now I view the U.S. as a mix between China and the terrorists of Alcida. If you are a U.S. citizen, please do whatever you can to stop the madness in your government. If this keeps up, your government may start WW3 with itself in the place of the axis of evil.

I would have to strongly disagree with this argument. Working in solitude is not better than working in a group is not better than working in solitude, it is just different. The only way one is better or worse than the other is when it comes down to the characteristics of the individual person.

Why people don't just create a wireless router that links with other wireless routers to create a type of wireless "net" that is able to access any computer that is connected to any of these wireless routers and also allows foreign access. We could call them citynets or townnets. All that would be needed then would be a similar type of communication between these city or town nets, perhaps even the current internet providers could provide them, that way if something like this does go through, there is a community that is able to still view the content, copy it, and spread it to other city and town nets with ease, and thus make it pointless to even bother with garbage like this bill.

I may be no computer expert, and this is by no means a complete idea, but I do know enough that it is doable (public willing), we have the technology and enough intelligent people to figure out how to make this type of idea functional.

Genetic modifications are any modifications that alter the natural state of the plant or animal that is being affected. This is how it is genetic modification.

As for injecting the parts of the DNA that cause allergic reaction, I cannot see them singling this portion out. The DNA is injected via a DNA gun, which does not use the most precise of technologies.

I am sure that farmers know damn well what goes on on other farms around them. However, seeds can lay dormant for over 5 years. There is very good chance that in that time, genetically modified crops of almost every grow-able type have been grown within range to ether seed the organic farmers field, or pollinate the farmers crops. This is the reason why Canada can no longer export flax to the EU. This is also why it is nearly impossible to find organic canola growing in Canada outside of isolated areas that have not seen GM canola being grown.

Comment GM Foods (Score 1) 571

I have recently done a university essay on the health and economy of genetically modified food and I must say that this article comes very close to being a lie. Genetically modified food, specifically milk produced by cows given hormones in order to grow faster and produce more milk, is known to cause cancer. Additionally, new GM foods may create new allergies (unproven, but the chances are there), as well as transfer allergies between plants when injecting foreign DNA. Think of them injecting peanut DNA into corn, if the right portion of the peanut DNA is accepted, there is now a form of corn that will cause an allergy attack in people allergic to peanuts, and since production of GM crops are not heavily regulated, it is very possible for those plants to breed with the original plant, and spread unbeknownst to farmers (such as what has happened to canola and flax in Canada).

If anyone wants access to the full essay, I would be glad to share it.

I agree and disagree, all it would take is one competent person, these people can easily be found working for the government, who will use the research incompetently, which is why we would need the other 99% of the people with knowledge in this area to fix what governments will inevitably screw up.

If you need an example of the incompetency of the government using competent people, look at SOPA and such. The government keeps trying to censor information, even though this will have drastically negative impacts, and very few (if any) good impacts. This will be against the advice of competent professionals, but they will still do it if told to. If you want, I can also provide a historical example instead of a current one, nuclear weapons. If governments were competent, they would get rid of them, however, they are not, so they get the competent people to build and maintain them, while having the incompetent people hold a finger over the big red button.
