Mightee writes: "A man and a woman are facing 30-year prison terms in Mexico for allegedly using Twitter to spread panic over a series of child kidnappings.

Driven by Jochen Krumbach, P001 broke the existing record with a time of 7 minutes and 47.794 seconds (despite low track temperature), beating the previous record set by Peugeot EX1 EV by almost 74 seconds. The lap was completed on road-legal tires and was verified by independent lap timing."

Submission + - Why Women Get More Scared Watching Horror Movies (gizmocrazed.com) 3

Mightee writes: "Why women freak out watching a horror movie while most men don't? According to a new study, it is due to the female brain which makes them more terrified. Pity! :D

Men and women differ in the way they regard an emotional and unpleasant experience, which affects the response with which that experience is committed to memory.

Researchers from University College London found that women get more scared as they are more likely to anticipate scary scenes that lie ahead. They measured the brain activity of 3o men and women by showing them pictures such as nice landscapes(positive) and extreme violence(negative)."

Earth

Submission + - 90% Species On Earth Not Yet Discovered [STUDY] (gizmocrazed.com)

Mightee writes: "A study by science experts shows that only 10 percent of the species that live on this planet have been discovered and 90 percent of the species have yet to be discovered.

The study which was published in the open journal by the name of PLoS Biology, increases the possible amount of species that share this planet with us. The journal says that only 1.2 million species have been discovered and named so far, and more than 9 million species have yet to be discovered."

Submission + - Astronomers Discover "Diamond" Planet (gizmocrazed.com)

Mightee writes: "Boy O' Boy! Astronomers have discovered a planet orbiting around a tiny star, which seems to be made of diamond and lies 4,000 light years away from Earth.

The newly discovered planet is far more dense than any other in the universe, and contains huge carbon content which is calculated to be in crystalline(diamond) form due to planet's highly dense nature. The high density also suggests that lighter elements like helium and hydrogen are not present."

Technology

Submission + - Why QR Codes Are Here to Stay [OPINION] (mashable.com)

Mightee writes: "If you raise the subject of QR codes among tech early adopters, you are likely to elicit a passionate response. Some people think QR codes, those scanable black and white squares on everything from billboards to product packaging, are on an unstoppable growth trajectory, while skeptics are quick to dismiss them as a fad.

This reaction is common whenever new technology formats or standards are being decided upon. Pundits want to exhibit their knack for predicting the future and stakeholders (of which I am undeniably one) want to make sure their format wins out. The general public, meanwhile, tends to lay in wait for a particular format to show dominance."

Apple

Submission + - Steve Jobs Has 313 Apple Patents to His Name (gizmocrazed.com)

Mightee writes: "Apple is a much cautioned company, protecting all that it has created by filing patents. It has over 1000 patents which include 313 patents in the name of Steve Jobs — some obvious and some not.

Some of these patents have completely changed the face of the company which includes the iPod's Click Wheel and the iTunes store. These services have not only served the consumers but also some musicians who can now safely broadcast their music."

Submission + - Women Own the Majority of Ereaders [STATS] (mashable.com) 1

Mightee writes: "Women are particularly taking to ereaders, according to data from Nielsen. Sixty-one percent of ereaders are now owned by women, compared to 46% in the third quarter of 2010. This largely why many women’s magazines are reporting better sales on the Nook than the iPad."
AMD

Submission + - ASUS MARS II is New Fastest Graphics Card (pcper.com)

Vigile writes: "It seems that every year some graphics card vendor steps up its game and produces a card that puts the others to shame. While AMD and NVIDIA pushed out the HD 6990 and GTX 590 earlier in the year, ASUS has designed another dual-GPU offering dubbed the "MARS II" that combines two true GTX 580 cores for a 25% boost in gaming performance over either previous bests. As you might expect in PC Perspective's testing of the new card the power draw is incredibly high but the temperature and noise is kept minimal thanks to a custom cooler built for the task. Oh and that price — how does $1300 sound?"
Games

Submission + - Game Consoles 'Still Have Plenty of Life' (industrygamers.com)

donniebaseball23 writes: Game consoles used to be designed for one purpose: playing games. Nowadays, though, consoles have become living room centerpieces, designed for numerous entertainment purposes, including movies, streaming videos, music and social networking. It's this versatility that could enable consoles to stick around for a while, despite the rise of other devices like smartphones and tablets, argues ABI Research. “Some industry insiders have started to envision the demise of game consoles — an end expected to come at the hands of mobile devices,” said researcher Jason Blackwell. “But we feel this market still has plenty of life. While mobile devices might soon match the processing power of game consoles, there are a number of issues such as storage and portability that could hinder the transition to mobile.”

Submission + - BlackBerry to See Android Apps in 2012 (tekgoblin.com)

tekgoblin writes: "According to three sources who are “familiar with the plan”, claims that RIM plans on releasing BlackBerry powered smart-phones that are capable of running Android apps as soon as 2012. This comes as a result of RIM’s latest struggle to keep pace with Android and iOS powered smart-phones in the OS market share race. I guess if you can’t beat them, join them!"
