Comment Re:What do you buy high end phones for? (Score 1) 98

At my work I'm not allowed to do general Google searching etc... on my desktop. High security environment and I'm IT. My phone acts as a second computer. Having it have a big beautiful screen, plenty of battery, and good speed are all very big quality of life issues for me. Also, yes, work gives me a $65 a month phone stipend.

Comment Re:the kind of hubris from the US (Score 2) 86

Why would we care? 5G is irrelevant to the average US citizen. We already plenty of coverage and speeds are fast enough to stream more pixels than we can appreciate on our tiny little screens. The only thing that would be relevant to us would be lower costs and thats not going to happen.

Obviously it's not always possible or applicable, but at my work I put in a suggestion that all of the managers come down from their high horses and work with the peons one day every six months or so. Fill in for someone who is sick, etc... A lot of the managers already do help out and do real work, but the ones who can't remember how or never could to begin with weren't fond of the idea. I do understand where it isn't applicable though for certain positions. I'm a DBA. My boss doesn't know SQL. I really don't want him to try to use google his way through code while I'm out lol. The fact that he can do things like tweak an agent job or wizard his way to a simple SSIS package does make me respect him more though than a boss who doesn't even have SSMS on his PC.

Comment Re:5G is pointless as long as we have data caps (Score 1) 126

Agreed. The higher speed does nothing for normal usage. Anything over 10mbs is near instant for browsing and loading web optimized images. It only helps streaming at very high resolutions. Resolutions not usually offered in mobile apps... Not to mention streaming at all is a terrible idea with a data cap.
